I tried it with my daughter and she can hear all the way up to 18. I was able to hear 14 and a little of 15 this time with my iPhone speakers. I was using Bluetooth headphones earlier through my laptop.

Here's a test to see where your upper hearing threshold is (or of your speakers if that's the limiting factor). I can hear the 12 kHz tone but not the 14 kHz or higher.

Turns out today’s delivery was only 2 of 3 items. So I’m actually get two taxis to bring my stuff to my door. An Uber to just take me to Home Depot right now is $14 one way.

I bought $34 of stuff from Home Depot yesterday and someone delivered it to my door. I didn't have to pay for the delivery separately. The price I paid online is what I would have paid in the store. What are we doing to ourselves when a $34 purchase comes with a taxi to bring it to your door?

Commuting through downtown Seattle years ago and I’d choose 3rd Ave to mix it up with the busses. Had to keep your wits about you, but they were so much more predictable than other traffic.

I think of myself as a 3, but was probably actually a 1, and found out my kid is a 2.

I felt so strongly about this nextdoor comment that I decided to do a dramatic reading of it. I hope you'll listen with the volume on to fully appreciate the quiet reverie.

If you’re not driving to a park-and-ride, transit service on the Eastside can be pretty terrible.

I'm not really sure I get any say in that, but I'll take it under advisement.

In addition to that ... "rolling right turn stop" is an oxymoron. If you were rolling, you didn't stop. If you stopped, you weren't rolling. See how that works?

For a brief millisecond I'm glad that I only have a daughter and don't have to raise a boy in today's landscape ... but then I realize there's a chance my daughter will want to date and even marry one of these boys and it's back* to being my problem too. *it was never not my problem.

And to be fair, she's never been trained in architecture or engineering or design. There's no reason to think she should know the history of the IBC. She came into it in a different way and is learning it now. She's making great progress, but still has quite the learning curve ahead of her.

Brian @vandalarchitect.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
In the course of discussing it, the IBC was brought up and in some frustration she questioned why the *International* Building Code doesn't recognize/cite European testing protocols like they do ASTM, NFPA, etc. (My short answer was, "think of the title as aspirational.")

Got reminded yesterday how much we can take for granted our accumulated knowledge in a particular field. A coworker had an issue where they were looking at a wallcovering for a project, and I pointed out the manufacturer didn't have any test data showing compliance with building code requirements.

The only speed camera I regularly encounter is at a school zone and it’s not one that can really be avoided one block over (thanks terrible city planning). People who regularly encounter it simply learn to slow down.

This is a huge issue in the S. Puget Sound waters. MANY violations of WA law here. Boats must be 200 yds from side/rear and 400 yds from forward path of orcas, with NO WAKE (<7 kts) within 1/2 mi (880 yds), and NO leapfrogging. We can do way better, this conduct is unacceptable.

I have had my SUV (sustainable urban vehicle) for two full years! 🎉🚲🍾I biked 5400 miles across 2700 trips. This works out to just over 2 miles per trip. These things are so much FUN to ride, plus they are tremendously efficient compared to cars and saved us thousands of 💵Here's what I learned: 1/15

I was trying to make sense of it and the best I could come up with is they simply don’t have a spot for their stuff and those are the only seats not sold to a ticket-carrying passenger. But surely they can take some overhead space or a corner of the baggage car?
