It is funny how extremely dated to the Hellenistic era the Seven Wonders are. Only three are non-Hellenic in origin (the Pyramids at Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus) and all of them can be found within the former empire of Alexander the Great.

Never forget that David Ellison's Skydance Media was originally created so he could be an actor. Skydance's first film was 'Flyboys' starring James Franco and... David Ellison. David and his daddy invested $60m to make Flyboys. It grossed $17m Here's a bit of David's acting:

The original Google search algorithm that was wizard magic was machine learning. Same with videogame enemies learning flocking techniques and figuring out how to beat you based on your tendencies. LLM stans fucked this up just let the scam artists define what AI is now because they are dumb.

Is it controversial to say that I don't think we should be naming laws after real people in Ireland, is that not a bit overly sentimental for something like a law that should be cut and dry and unexciting

I did *not* expect Anno’s new Yamato film to be implicitly some version specifically of the 2012 reboot (as the title and Izubuchi’s involvement implies), interesting.

The story of superhero TV has always been how to tell these kinds of stories on TV budgets, all the way back to George Reeves flying in the 1950s.

040

Val 🏳️‍⚧️ @valondar.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Also: Aliens can be expensive. You want ‘comic accurate’ designs for a lot of Green Lantern characters like Kilowog you are looking at a ton of CG, and audiences for this kind of calibre of superhero show expect it to look a lot more ‘real’ than the CW fare. Hence this approach.

230

Val 🏳️‍⚧️ @valondar.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I do get the people who wanted this to be a big outer space adventure with lots of aliens because yeah that’s what I’d do given the reins of something like this but that absolutely was not what they wanted to do with it, which is fine, I can roll if their take’s good.

Val 🏳️‍⚧️ @valondar.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Basically, Watchmen was a much more interesting HBO superhero show with Lindelof’s involvement but its bigger swings also meant that the finale disappointed me a lot more: I had no such expectations here and found what we got was pretty good.

130

Val 🏳️‍⚧️ @valondar.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

And that’s exactly what we got and, understanding that’s what it’s going for, it’s not bad at it. I understand people wanted More there, or comic book fans wanted it to hew closer to the source material, but it what it has basically works.

Val 🏳️‍⚧️ @valondar.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

I have pretty moderate opinions on Lanterns because I came with pretty moderate expectations. I assumed a prestige TV wrapper for a comic book adaptation, use the rhythms and language of True Detective to tell a story about DC Comics’ space cops, get some ringer actors, etc.

Yes, this is the exact kind of plot I think of when I think of the motion picture Training Day.

Episode summary for the second episode of Training Day, “Tehrangeles.”

Female assassin Lina Farzan, a former member of Muammar Gaddafi's Amazonian Guard, becomes involved in the kidnapping of one girl and Frank's rogue tactics will put the girl's life at even greater risk or save her life.

A customer just tried to use an employee discount code that ChatGPT gave her. I work at a high-end clothing store and clocked in to my manager telling me about the most unhinged interaction from yesterday. A woman walked in asking if she could use a 40% off code she got online. We don't have any sales running, so my manager looks at the screen and realizes ChatGPT straight up handed this woman a real employee's internal ID number.
