A friend has Covid right now. They have lost their sense of smell and they're having cognitive problems. This hit me today, as it often does: we made, and continue to make, a huge collective mistake in allowing a virus that impacts the brain to transmit unmitigated globally.

I don’t think relying on software that steals other peoples’ labor and outsources your cognitive abilities makes you “more functional.” It transfers the time and effort from you to other people, both in the initial theft and in the burden you expect others to carry. There is always a cost.

The Anthropic, Meta, and Google "breaking containment" incidents all resulted from setup errors (or a stunt) by the same company: Irregular. Irregular created a sandbox that wasn't really a sandbox because it had a live internet connection, and gave instructions that were then carried out online.

Covid is a mass disabling event. Just because you had it and were “fine” doesn’t mean there isn’t silent damage in your body. Multiple infections increase the risk of long covid … you never know which one could leave you disabled. This is why we mask. Why we clean the air.
