You can make your commits easier to find by using emoji prefixes. You have to be very, very deliberate, though, for these to be effective at all. Here are some thoughts on that.

NSSpain just announced their schedule! There's a familiar face at the very end of Day 1. What's that about a retcon? 2026.nsspain.com/
TALK 17:00
Nathan Manceaux-Panot

Reimplementing Git: What’s hard about making things easy

A virtualized version of your Git history, that’s fully malleable; a custom negotiation algorithm for safely undoing pushes; a cleanly reversible pipeline for modifying an entire repository at once. Come hear about the technical challenges of creating Retcon—the Git app for rewriting history faster—and the intricate algorithms that make it all work. By the end of the session, you’ll have seen a very different way of interacting with Git, told through animated graphs and development stories.

werner herzog on AI filmmaking (from here www.indiewire.com/features/int...)
Q: A couple years ago at IDFA, I saw this movie "About a Hero," which is this partly Al-generated hybrid documentary that tries to recreate the atmosphere of your films.

A: The intention of this young filmmaker was never to remake any [of my films], but making something in the spirit. And I immediately said, "You will fail. It is such a stupid idea. It's phenomenally, abysmally stupid. I will not take part in it." He wanted me to explain things and have my voice in it.
I said, "You are alone. There's such a thing as free speech, which I respect. So go ahead and fail." And it is a failure, period.
It's so standardized that Al can step in because there's not real storytelling. It's mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome Al to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it's ad nauseam.
When it's ad nauseam, please, please, please let Al step in and do the job.

It's really hard to succinctly explain Retcon's main, game-changing advantage (getting instant feedback after each change, instead of the sluggish plan/find out/restart workflow). The website currently really drops the ball on this, so I've been working on a new section. Here's a very rough WIP!
A diagram that shows a three step process: make a change (a commit is dragged); see the outcome (a conflict has resulted); keep going (“Pay no mind to the conflict. You’ll resolve it later, when you feel like it; or it might even vanish as you make more changes.”)

Here's Retcon 1.6.1, with an assortment of fixes, but also a few new features and improvements. Update now for a nicer time!
## Retcon 1.6.1

May 13th, 2026

### New

* __Navigate commits while right pane is focused__ using ⌃⇧▲ and ⌃⇧▼
* In settings, choose between tabs or windows

### Improved

* Inactive windows are better differentiated
* `.orig` files are no longer created when using mergetool

### Fixed

* Commit conflict icon was sometimes displayed much too small
* “Was edited” green checkmarks would incorrectly reappear on scroll
* Would sometimes show an error when cancelling a folder open
* Locked index files trigger recovery less often still
* Would crash when moving a commit to the very bottom using ⌘▼

I’m placing the last elements, and I can finally start texturing. The animations are also in place so I can focus more on materials and lighting. I would like something realistic with a focus on textures and lights. What do yo think about that? #blendercommunity #3Denvironment #blender #pottery

In the middle of a large interactive rebase, you realize the commit list you arranged wasn't quite right. Maybe a commit is missing, or misplaced, or something else. Where usually you'd have to start over, Retcon lets you course-correct on the fly: your history remains fully editable, always.

Just fixed a typo in the undo cheatsheet on Retcon's website. Ironically, if you do *not* use Retcon and instead favor the CLI, then that page is one of the best "how to undo anything in Git" guides on the Web. Do share it with all your Terminal-loving friends: retcon.app/#undo-cheatsheet

Wrote a quick tool that shows CPU usage history, per process. Already it's showing something strange: Time Machine backups seem to cause significant spikes for SystemUIServer, even though that process is only supposed to manage menu bar extras. Might be because I've hidden the TM icon using Ice?
A Mac app showing a graph with two curves. backupd shows hourly spikes, and SystemUIServer has very closely matching usage.

Why does svelte have to be this woke? Please let me write this first, i will figure out accessibility on my pace, svelte be like no, do this or we are not going to let you do it at all - we will fill your editor with warnings in a way that you can't see anything.

This is the ultimate goal of AI - don't buy the claims that it's to help your efficiency. They want you gone. Source: mobilegamer.biz/laid-off-kin...
Many level designers, user research staff plus UX and narrative writers have also been told they’re at risk. In particular, these staff have spent the last few years building and training AI tools to do their jobs. They’re now effectively being replaced, say sources.

“Most of level design has been wiped, which is crazy since they’ve spent months building tools to craft levels quicker,” said one staffer. “Now those AI tools are basically replacing the teams. Similarly the copywriting team is completely removing people since we now have AI tools that those individuals have been creating.”

The speed of writing code has never, and will never be the bottleneck. The bottleneck, the limiting factor, is always in the thinking about the code and how it works, understanding it. People who use chatgpt to write code are literally removing the only part of programming that is actually useful.
