Great reporting, shocking vulnerability: “Hernández González, president of [Mexico’s] National Energy Commission… noted that in Mexico, 70 percent of electricity is generated with natural gas, and, given the dependence on the US supply, the country is exposed to being left without electricity.”

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

This morning I was at our great public health clinic in New Orleans, & as always, I marveled at their bathroom design. They’re all single user, for all genders, & also wheelchair/walker users. The only hook on the door is at a perfect level for a wheelchair user. There is a sharps container. 10/10

The context of *this* wave of visceral rage at rapists is that in the past decade we've seen them take complete control of the government, turn the entire economy into their ponzi scheme, gain trillions of dollars of exploited wealth. We've seen an opposition party abjectly fail at stopping them

When I say John Roberts is a liar, hack, anti-democracy ideologue, and enemy of the Constitution, I do so in a civil manner. No yelling or cursing here. But since he will be remembered as an utter disgrace who tried to destroy the republic but failed, some in the future might say it less civilly.

I consider much of Operation Mongoose to be fighting even if there weren’t known casualties. (There may have been, not an expert.) Attacking infrastructure, introducing disease to crops, widespread psyops, hundreds of assassination attempts (not only but especially Castro), etc are forms of fighting

When I taught at an all-boys prep school, we'd do an activity where I had them list every sexual term they could think of. They'd often laugh, as many were absurd things meant for Urban Dictionary. We'd then go through how many terms were violent (~85%) and how many were male-dominant (~90%).

Since then, Louisiana voters have rejected all 9 of the Landry-backed right wing constitutional amendments put forth by the lege, over 2 separate elections. In 2025, all 64 parishes rejected all 4 amendments. IN DROVES

Changing the parameters of your ignorant commentary doesn’t make you sound any less foolish. Louisiana has a jungle primary. There is no 19% “hill” for anyone to die on. Landry received 51.6% of the total votes, winning a majority of ~33,200 votes. Still not “droves,” even with trump endorsing.

Lots of good polling for Democrats right now. Keep in mind, however, that polling in the last few cycles has been significantly off (~4 points in big races), generally to the benefit of Republicans. My sense is that this is because voting for Trump drives shame. So respondents simply lie.

Nepal says big polluters must ‘wake up’ as it calls for climate compensation over flood disaster
Foreign minister Shisir Khanal tells the Guardian the world’s biggest economies need to help Nepal, which contributes less than 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions Nepal is demanding $20m in climate compensation for the recent devastating floods, as a senior minister called on the world’s most polluting countries to “wake up” and accept shared responsibility for a disaster that led to the death or disappearance of more than 6,000 people. Scientists believe the climate crisis had a role to play in the floods, which were triggered when a melting glacier partially collapsed and set off a deadly landslide and flash flooding through Chinese-controlled Tibet and Nepal in late August. So far, more than 1,300 are confirmed dead and more than 5,500 still missing, with hopes of their survival diminished after 12 days of rescue operations. Continue reading...
