I shared this story last week on The Year in Science: Good News Edition panel at @dragoncon.org and it got a big cheer from the audience when I said the salmon were able to reach their historical breeding grounds for the first time in over 100 years. I loved hearing people cheer for chinook salmon!

While I’ve been at DragonCon we have a cat sitter taking care of our cats and watering our garden, and she has been sending me daily updates as to the state of a sunflower bud as though it were a baby.

I’m wearing my Enterprise uniform today at DragonCon and I was just standing around chatting with someone and a person grabbed my arm to get my attention. I turned around and a guy said “I love your uniform!” then ran off. As I watched him leave, my brain processed that it was Anthony Montgomery.

A woman just walked up to me with a bag and said “would you like a tooth?” She looked so expectant, so I hesitantly responded with a yes and prayed it wasn’t a human tooth. She reached into her bag and handed took out a shark tooth and handed it to me. @dconscitrack.bsky.social
