HIM (2025) is a movie in which a blonde, mar-a-lago faced football cultist named Marjorie (VERY CLEARLY based on a certain Republican congresswoman) gets beaten to death in a sauna. 5/5 stars.

Football is human sacrifice/body horror. Critics hated this movie because it was up front about all that in a maximalist way. There is no subtlety when discussing a sport where the announcers straight up say "you can do sexual assault if you score enough touchdowns"

To me, when an essay gets this much attention over a long period of time it means the author struck on an untapped, deep vein of cultural discussion and analysis. There's more to be said about the relationship between imperialism and western fantasy and I look forward to reading those discussions.

I come back to this book all the time when I think about the climate crisis. Let's pretend there was a technology that could fix it. Why would Thiel/Musk/Andreesen/Zuck/etc deploy it? They already have everything they want. If anything they'd exploit the technology for increased leverage!
