The world's loosest shackles 🏠
Black and white cartoon showing three caricatures of government politicians with loose tape around their hands, being held by two background characters sitting on large sacks marked "Landlord Profits" and "Vulture Funds", with the figure on the right holding a vulture on his arm. On the ground is a long partially unfurled scroll headed "Dáil Landlords" with some of the most recently declared ones written down the scroll. The speech bubble above the three figures reads "Housing? Our hands are tied!!". It's signed @Ciaraioch

The holiday in Kerry is going well. The weather has been wonderful, for early April.
A view of the bay in Caherdaniel. You can see the Ship house. Amazing dwelling. You’d never get planning for this now. Small coral from one of Ireland two coral beaches. This one is near Sneem, Co. Kerry. A sheepdog called Milo is standing by my seaweed bath barrel. He’s mostly black, with brown and white detail around the face. The view in the background is of the sea and mountains. A World War Two sign spelling out ÉIRE on a costal headline. It’s made up of stone painted with white wash. It was used to tell pilots for both the allied and axis forces that they were flying over neutral Ireland.

This is such a lovely tribute to Val Kilmer from Hilarie Burton ❤️
hilarieburton
The sweetest man.

I played @valkilmerofficial 's girlfriend in a movie back in 2009. The script called for us to have a fairly rowdy love scene that got interrupted by a phone call. I'd just come off of OTH where I was always put in some kind of compromising position....so it was just work as usual.
But then I got to set the day we were going to be shooting that scene and there was a scramble happening. "Val wants to change the scene."
Huh?
"It's not interesting," he said. A gratuitous sex scene with a younger woman didn't service the story or the character. It said nothing about the relationship and why either of our characters were in it. Instead, Val sent someone out to a local restaurant to pick up a huge tub of ribs. And so, as the camera panned up from the floor, our moans were those of two people, comfortable and indulgent, tangled up in bed and unfettered by the mess, elbows deep in North Carolina's finest bbqIt was infinitely more interesting and I felt so safe and cared for by that man. It would have been easy to phone it in and just go with the stereotypical way women have been seen in film. Rather than the scene playing on my naked back, he turned me toward the camera. He made the scene about us instead of using me as a prop. That one day at work rewired my brain.
Val was kind to me. A thoughtful artist. I bought some of his paintings a few years back. I hope every young actor has a Val in their life. That movie was a magical experience.

“I didn’t want a transgender child. I’m so ashamed of myself now” Nothing but love for @alicemydaughter.bsky.social for this interview with the Sunday Times magazine for her book, "Her name is Alice"
Double page Sunday Times magazine spread - “I didn’t want a transgender child. I’m so ashamed of myself now”
When Caroline Litman discovered that her 16-year-old wanted to become a girl, she was heartbroken. She explains how she learnt to accept Alice as her daughter — but couldn’t save her life
INTERVIEW BY LAURA PULLMAN, PORTRAIT BY ANNA BATCHELORThe shock set in the moment they found the GP’s letter, left open in the kitchen beside the kettle. It was an autumn morning in 2018 when Caroline Litman’s husband, Peter, rushed upstairs to confess to his wife that he’d glimpsed the letter to their 16-year-old. It raised the possibility that the anxiety their child had been suffering might stem from “gender dysphoria”. The couple were blindsided.
“It wasn’t a boy child that I longed for. It was a happy child. If transitioning could bring that happy child back out, I was all for it”

Shortly afterwards, there were moments of light. Alice asked if the family could get a new dog — their old dog had recently died — and within a week they had found Pippin, a one-eyed Romanian rescue dog who became a dependable friend. That summer Alice came downstairs from her bedroom wearing a dress for the first time — a floral item that seemed to make her giddy with happiness. “I was trying so hard to be loving and accepting,” Litman says, “but inside I was, like, ‘What’s she doing? She looks ridiculous.’ Oh God, bless her!” she says, laughing fondly. “I felt really uncomfortable.”In the UK, Litman argues, trans healthcare is not fit for purpose. In March 2020, after Alice had turned 18, she was discharged from CAMHS psychiatric services as she was now a legal adult. Aged 19 she moved out of home to live with a friend in Brighton. The hope was that she would find a job or complete a course that could lead to a university place, but by her mental health was too fragile. In April 2022, using an e-consult form, Alice told a new GP in Brighton of her fears that she wasn’t taking the right medication. “I often feel hopeless, and helpless and that life is not worth living,” she wrote. An appointment was made for July.

She didn’t make it. On May 26, 2022, around 8.30am, a policeman knocked on Litman’s front door. She assumed that something had happened to her 95-year-old mother, who’d spent the night in hospital after a gardening accident. “My brain was protecting me,” she says, quietly remembering that morning.

The offcer suggested that the couple sit down in their living room before breaking the news. A body had been found by a passer-by earlier that morning on the Undercliff Walk between Brighton and Rottingdean. The first devastating task was telling Kate, who was studying for a history master’s at Leeds University, and Harvey, who was travelling with his girlfriend in Guatemala, before they heard the news somehow elsewhere.

Litman doesn’t like gentle euphemisms for death. “I just find it so offensive because Alice’s death wasn’t peaceful and calm and a slipping away,” she says. “It was cruel and brutal, harsh and horrible.”

You know who should've won an Oscar last night? The person who designed the little 'Gravity on / off' buttons in Alien Romulus.
An dusty, industrial looking control panel in a wall. There are two big white square buttons on it. The one on the left has a red border and the letter 'i' touching the bottom, representing a person stuck to the ground (the dot of the i being their head). The 2nd button also has a red border, but inside the button is an upside down stickman figure, arms and legs spread out. To indicate this person is floating around helplessly in zero-gravity.

In London for the weekend, for Clive’s birthday. It’s going great so far! Heading out shortly to meet his buddies for BBQ food. And tomorrow we are going to ABBA Voyage 🎉
The BT Tower to the left, the top of it shrouded in fog. A curvy oblong building to the right, with the words 101 Forged in the white heat of scientific revolution. The iconic London clock tower known as Big Ben. A peachy coloured gin cocktail in a gimlet glass, sitting on a dark barrel. In the background are four bar stools, a bar countertop and shelves of bottles. A black and white photo of the ceiling to floor windows of the 58th floor in the Horizon 22 building. Silhouettes of people standing and looking out at the view over London. They are casting long shadows from the sun. You can see the Shard skyscraper in the distance.
