Sustained economic growth can’t be achieved without a major boost to the purchasing power of the bottom 50% of the UK population. The govt can do so immediately by increasing income tax-free personal allowance by £3,000. All it needs to do is to end subsidies to commercial banks.

I think what Badenoch meant to say here is: “British employers are dependent on welfare to subsidise a massively underpaid workforce” - particularly when you consider that around 40% of claimants are actually in work. But that’s just me splitting hairs, I suppose.

I am still (11 years later) unable to grasp how the images of little Alan Kurdi’s body washed up on a beach wasn’t the final word on treating refugees with compassion and dignity. How we are we having attacks on the RNLI for saving HUMAN lives being encouraged by our media. I weep for our world.

JK Rowling wrote a book series largely considered to be a big factor in getting young people hooked on reading. She could have done like Dolly and put her vast resources into programs that would help those kids foster that joy. She decided to hate trans people instead.
