I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?
The reactions of some researchers on Twitter finally being held responsible for not having read the very paper they submitted are... something. Mainly, they don't think they should have to check every citation or make sure the data is real and accurate. Because it's too hard, I guess.

I’ve been getting a lot of peer review requests lately and many of the papers are about Turkey. For the record, I’m Turkish but I’ve never conducted research on Turkey. So, note to editors (or anyone suggesting my name): being Turkish doesn’t automatically qualify me to review these articles.

when I was in undergrad I felt that professors who ran discussion-based classes were lazy. but now that I’m a professor I realize it’s much harder to facilitate a generative discussion than to lecture.

I'm looking for Eurovision fans to participate in an online focus group about how fans think about and interact with the politics of the Contest.

All fans aged 18 and older are welcome. If you’re a Eurovision fan and are interested in discussing Eurovision and politics, I’d like to hear from you!

What will taking part involve?
Participating in a focus groups with 6-8 Eurovision fans. The focus groups will be conducted online in English, and last around 90 minutes. The focus groups will be held in June and July.

I will ask you and the group questions about your views on whether and how the Contest relates to international politics, and on how you engage with these politics as a fan. 

You don’t need to have a particular opinion about whether the contest is political or not - only an interest in talking about Eurovision and politics as you understand it.Further Information

In Turkey, university students are leading the demonstrations. Keep in mind that they haven't seen any other government than the AKP governments, which have repeatedly repressed civil society and peaceful protests. These students are now protesting both despite and because of that.

Très intéressant, parce que si le critère d'utilité de la liberté académique est "facteurs de compétitivité, de croissance, de souveraineté", alors on peut raisonnablement penser que plein de recherches ne sont pas concernées, et qu'il faut donc supprimer la liberté académique.
