I feel like I've come across cento poems where the poet pulls from previous lines of poems from their own work? Have y'all? Any examples?

I was reading Chen Chen's new poem (very good, now I want to write a poem about names/other selves) in @splitlipthemag.bsky.social and started bopping around, as one does, and came across this great little story that I devoured: splitlipthemag.com/fiction/0926...

Each time I see an announcement of the banning of THE BLUEST EYE, I pick up the book from its pride of place on my desk, open it to a random page, and read a passage aloud, relishing its lyricism. "So when I think of autumn, I think of somebody with hands who does not want me to die."

Sure, it’s cheaper to have big classes and to give each adviser 1000 students while rushing students themselves to graduate as fast as possible, but less learning will happen as a result.

It's esp important for male academics to learn more about how problematic the Title IX process is and how poorly universities treat survivors. I helped organize a conference panel on this topic in 2022. The room was full--of women. Two men came. This isn't a women's issue, it's a human issue.

Think about how long it has been since you first saw headlines about Harvey Weinstein’s violence. Nine years after #MeToo went viral, his case(s) are still working their way through the criminal justice system. This is (one of a long list of reasons) why survivors don’t report.

One of my personal opinions is that we need to be having students at all levels doing more creative writing. The last 20+ of writing instruction seems to have shifted towards more regimented genres of composition, but one outcome has been a detachment from writers encountering their own voice.

Poem for Thursday 9.10.2026 (This poem & book are stunning) ✨ Clean —from: Dressing The Bear ~ Susan L. Leary —I often worried when I got the call, I'd be unprepared. But the morning my brother dies — 🤍
Clean
By: Susan L. Leary
I often worried when I got the call, I'd be unprepared.
But the morning my brother dies, all the good clothes in the house are clean. So I tell myself to get on with it. & later, standing over my brother, I think whoever prepared his body must love what they do. Because he looks so clean. Cleaner, even, than when he'd doze on the couch midafternoons to Hank Williams or Johnny Cash.
The fatigue of living wiped from his cheeks. & today, as then, the same stillness stretched across his eyes.
The same tiny shovels for thumbs. & when I find the strength to rest a hand atop his, I shake him a little to tell him I wore his favorite dress: summery & sand-colored with splotches of blue. & while it seems so symbolic, it's all rather simple.
1 wear a blue-patterned dress because my brother loved the ocean. & because my brother was lonely & broken, he couldn't kick drugs. But I love my brother & the morning he dies, all the good clothes in the house are clean.
So I tell him: Clean.

i feel like we just need to admit to a lot of young people that our systems completely failed them. we let digital tools in the classroom and social media algorithms use them like lab rats and now half of them cannot have a basic, polite human interaction.
