Many congratulations to Anne Carson for the well-deserved Nobel Prize! This is also great news for Translation, Classics, Poetry, the breaking of generic and disciplinary boundaries, and the fact that you don't have to fit a pre-existing mould to have a brilliant, successful career.

There’s something maddening—and often sexist—about senior scholars citing junior scholars for minor facts while ignoring arguments directly relevant to their own. It’s scholarly gaslighting: cite enough to seem fair, never enough to acknowledge the ideas.

Right. and isn’t the point also that the text itself is already a product of translation? Passed down through oral tradition over generations, then filtered through centuries of English translations, each with its own history (there’s a great new book by Henry Power on this).
