Filing a civil rights complaint with the Office of Civil Rights can be parents’ last stop. Following cuts and restructuring, this federal office is no longer serving that same resource.

So what's happening with the warehouses now? Well, ICE is now trying to offload most of them "at a steep discount." In other words, ICE effectively set millions of dollars on fire for a complete boondoggle. Reporting courtesy @projectsaltbox.com. www.projectsaltbox.com/p/ice-puts-s...

ICE appears to be using the parking lot of the Roxbury warehouse for processing and brief detention, and at least once appears to have taken people inside. But also, read this inside look from a federal contractor about how everyone knew the warehouse plan was insane but Miller demanded inhumanity.
NPR spoke to an official at a government contractor whose company was approached to convert several of the warehouses into ICE facilities. He spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation from the government.

"No one that we spoke to at DHS was for this idea whatsoever. The deputy director told us point-blank that they had pushed back very hard on it. Everybody knew warehouses are horrible places to put people," he says.

At a meeting with a deputy director at DHS, he says, his company proposed an alternative: FEMA-style camps in Texas that would be more humane.

He says that idea was swiftly shot down. While White House adviser Stephen Miller was not at the meeting, they were told that this was not what Miller wanted.

The contractor says his understanding from that meeting was that "Miller did not want the facilities that were comfortable. He did not want facilities that were humane. We were told point-blank that that was not what the administration wanted."

"Steve Miller certainly seemed to make that point to everyone that he wanted it to be cruel. This was what Miller had stated to the DHS at that time, to the DHS director and deputy director. What surprised me was just how adamant the people were that it was going to happen. Damn the consequences. I would say in 25 years of working with the U.S. government, I've never been in that position before."

This was one of the more diabolical Trump admin moves on immigration; ordering ICE to stop taking biometrics for detained immigrants seeking immigration benefits from USCIS, which meant that the agency would deny their applications by default.
In December 2025, USCIS announced that DHS would stop collecting biometrics related
to USCIS immigration applications for people in its custody. ECF No. 14-2; ECF No. 14-3 at 2-
3. In its press release, USCIS said that going forward DHS "generally will not take biometrics of detained aliens unless they are in removal proceedings and have a pending application or petition filed with the Executive Office for Immigration Review." ECF No. 14-2. That means DHS would continue to collect biometrics only for certain applications for relief, including those that can be made to immigration courts (which fall within the Executive Office for Immigration Review), but not for applications for many kinds of immigration status, including the plaintiffs' applications
(which must be submitted to and determined by USCIS). See 8 C.F.R. § 245.2(a)(1) (adjustment

Last paragraphs from Strunk & White.
Style takes its final shape more from attitudes of mind than from principles of composition, for, as an elderly prac-titioner once remarked, "Writing is an act of faith, not a trick of grammar." This moral observation would have no place in a rule book were it not that style is the writer, and there-fore what you are, rather than what you know, will at last determine your style. If you write, you must believe in the truth and worth of the scrawl, in the ability of the reader to receive and decode the message. No one can write decent-ly who is distrustful of the reader's intelligence, or whose attitude is patronizing.
Many references have been made in this book to "the reader," who has been much in the news. It is now neces-sary to warn you that your concern for the reader must be pure: you must sympathize with the reader's plight (most readers are in trouble about half the time) but never seek to know the reader's wants. Your whole duty as a writer is to please and satisfy yourself, and the true writer always plays to an audience of one. Start sniffing the air, or glancing at the Trend Machine, and you are as good as dead, although you may make a nice living.
Full of belief, sustained and elevated by the power of purpose, armed with the rules of grammar, you are ready for exposure. At this point, you may well pattern yourself on the fully exposed cow of Robert Louis Stevenson's rhyme. This friendly and commendable animal, you may recall, was "blown by all the winds that pass /And wet withall the showers." And so must you as a young writer be. In our modern idiom, we would say that you must get wet all over. Mr. Stevenson, working in a plainer style, said it with felicity, and suddenly one cow, out of so many, received the gift of immortality. Like the steadfast writer, she is at home in the wind and the rain; and, thanks to one moment of felicity, she will live on and on and on.
