The Parades Commission needs to consider the trauma many Irish in the north felt during the first Drumcree. So many died and none of us knew who would be next. Obviously it is worse for those who live on the Garvaghy Road. That should be significant enough to be part of the decision making evidence

Very odd comment, now deleted, as the Garvaghy road residents are of a Christian background too, and as it happens, Catholic tradition has disobedience to unjust law as a fully orthodox part of its theology.

Also people, often outsiders or naïve, who are suggesting people just suck it up and let 35 men walk down the road, you are missing a context of decades of marches being deliberately routed through Catholic areas. Causing so much historical violence and contributing to the outbreak of the Troubles.

What happens on the Garvaghy Road in Portadown has ramifications for Northern Ireland, Ireland and UK politics. If the PSNI (police) force a path through the nationalist residents and protect a loyalist triumphalist hate march ('Orange parade') along the road, it could spark widespread unrest.
