Robert Dow passed away on Tuesday this week after a long illness. Robert will be known to many as founder of Brisbane and SEQ public transport advocacy group Rail Back on Track. He was active here as @ozbob13.bsky.social, and regularly appeared in the media advocating for improved public transport.

If I knew you were going to post it on youtube, I would have NEVER aole you copies!!!!!" A Facebook post from The Buffer Stop which reads "Owing to the Ozride DVD being posted online... we have made the call NOT to restock any copies. Sorry for any inconvenience."

I frequently see "AI" boosters implying that LLMs are simply an innate and superior part of coding now, inescapable, and that literally all programmers agree with them. And, well. That, too, is a form of propaganda
Looking at my software peers in 2026 I see fatigued faces, I see frustration, and I see a lot of people looking for a way out of an industry that seems poised on the brink of collapse. LLMs are being pushed on us at every turn, most people seem at best frustrated by them, and ultimately they seem to appeal most to people who see the production of software as a purely mechanical means to an end. They are antithetical, however, to the idea of software as a craft, or something requiring both initial and ongoing care. As an expression of the soul.

Thanks! I'm kind of shocked at how good these turned out, I put in a fraction of the effort I normally do and it just worked somehow? Maybe buying more gear really is the solution?

Took a walk after work to try and snag some quick shots just to test it out. Oh my fucking god this thing is insane
A photo of a large, long-necked white bird (possibly a Great Egret?) standing on a branch. The bird is facing away from the camera, but has turned its head sideways such that it's almost a perfect side profile of the bird's face. In background is an out-of-focus river surface covered in ripples. Bright reflections on the water surface from the just-set sun blur into pale yellow bokeh dots.A photo of a crow perched on a branch which has lost all leaves. Both the crow and the branch are an almost black silhouette against the subtle gradient of the sky behind them. Another leafless branch is visible but out of focus behind the crowA photo of a yellow grevillea flower. The background is dark with lighter blurred patches.

I feel like realistically it should be renamed Anzac Square, since yeah it's neither centrally located (Albert St beats it) nor the main station (Roma St has that title)

Ari 🚋 @transitenjoyer.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I pass through it as part of my commute and I can pretty confidently say almost everyone uses the Edward St entrance, or one of the many tunnels that feed in from Adelaide St, Post Office Sq, Anzac Park, etc. Doesn't help that the main entrance is half-converted into a restaurant!

Thank you ebay sellers listing high quality gear for reasonably cheap, now I can work on both my forearms and my shots at the same time

The problem with Central (at least IMO) is that it was a perfectly good station for a city of 500,000 but is woefully inadequate for what is now a city of almost 3 million, and because QR sold the air rights it's extremely hard to fix. Hopefully post-CRR Roma & Albert St stations will allow for this

Ari 🚋 @transitenjoyer.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Unfortunately Brisbane Central sucks SO MUCH. Despite being peak heavy it's got extremely poor passenger circulation, it's dark and grimy, trains entering make an extremely loud flange squeal that gets amplified by the fact that it's a largely enclosed hard space, and it gets steaming hot in summer

Also of note is that this project has created tons of high quality linear parks & active transport corridors, eliminated mud holes and other poor quality trackage, and provided a significant accessibility upgrade. The LXRP shouldn't have cost 21 billion, but it was a lot more than

Interesting, I wonder if there's a reason they went for 2nd hand EMUs as opposed to just passenger carriages (other than it just being cheaper). Definitely being used for the commuter service though!

Yeah, if you're a someone with a lot of real estate the ban is obviously great because it pushes your portfolio up. It's such a shame, because Brisbane is a wonderful city and it could be so much better if the council had their priorities in order!

Good thing we've made it nice and easy to do the same sort of incredibly basic, super gentle density here in Brisbane. Certainly we wouldn't impose a ban on townhouses in over half the city or anything insane like that. Unrelated www.propertycouncil.com.au/news/townhou...

I mean speed cameras have been repeatedly, independently confirmed to reduce road deaths. You can look this up. People do studies on it. Here's one showing a reduction of fatalities between 11% & 44% depending on the area www.cochrane.org/evidence/CD0...

Another aerial photo comparison - the 1950's station complex, and the 1996 shopping centre/station that replaced it. Note the station access moved to face away from the CBD. Obviously a yard in the city isn't a great use of space (as much as it hurts to say), but this feels like a downgrade for pax
