I actually winced reading that. My facebook feed is unbearable now. I'm a small business, no budget for a graphic designer, and get about one day off work a year. Taught myself how to use illustrator to make my own stuff. I did not resort to chatGPT. It's counterproductive. Awful and off putting.

I grew up & live in South Woodham Ferrers, a town created in the '70s based on the Essex Design Guide. I even own the guidebook on how they planned it. The guide is designed better than the town. Jonathan Meades called the town saccharine and mimsy. Many of our roads are named after Middle-earth.

My youngest has a show on his university radio station. He's on tonight so I was just looking at the website. What a lovely sight, such a refreshing change. Because it's free of AI slop. They've gone the other way with an anti-design thing. Grown up internet is rubbish and ugly.

Ooh there's a consultation. That is good to know. I know of a situation where a local authority ignored their duty to assess employment status, which led to false self-employment and unfair pay practices, some being vastly overpaid, and some not even minimum wage. All doing same role.

I think failing to issue an SDS alone should incur penalties. The consequences compound, enabling even more rules to be dodged down the line. This should be part of the Fair Work Agency cracking down on false self-employment. No point in having rules if there are no consequences for breaking them.

Failing to assess employment status and issue a Status Determination Statement enabled a local authority to not only pay some less than minimum wage for years, but also pay above regulated public sector rates to others. They ignored advice from their own HR dept.

I'm a wedding photographer, and yes, I've seen so many bands do the stomp-clap-hey thing at weddings. Mumford are to blame. But when I talk to the band, they are just doing this for work, it's not what they really love. They are talented musicians, their real work is great, but bills need paying.
