The frequency of campus rapes, & their role in getting women to drop out of college, could be regarded as a 2nd stage in a process that starts by making it nearly twice as hard for qualified women to gain university admission compared to men. Excluding women from upward mobility is a policy choice.

This is true whatever your end goal is, whether it is a closer relationship or even to rejoin: you need to know not just about the individual countries, but how they interact with each other and on an EU level. Sorry to say that I am doubtful whether UK is currently up-to-date with that.

(I remember a certain conversation with a politician who had a grand scheme about cooperation in central and Eastern Europe but sadly zero clue about the intricacies and historical baggage of the German-Polish, or indeed Polish-Ukrainian relationship. This stuff matters.)
