Not sure if it’s good or bad publicity, given today’s events, for a @goonpod.bsky.social looking at an inflight high-jack drama from 1959! Cue Seagoon fullstop gulping sound effect! A very entertaining listen nonetheless, and will have to find Jet Storm/Stream/Storm to watch.

Patreon backers have a new 500 Songs bonus episode, two hours and twenty minutes on the Bee Gees -- the pre-Batley years. In which, mostly, Robin Gibb has a bad time of things.

New! JET STORM (1959) pod.link/1569929507 Me, I'd be quite happy watching a 90-minute film purely in which Harry Secombe and Dame Sybil Thorndike enjoy each other's company on a transatlantic flight. NOT LIKE THAT! But bloody Richard Attenborough only wants to blow it up! With @hwam.bsky.social

Next month the first episode of our brand new podcast Episode Number Nine launches, and we're going to be looking at Open All Hours. Personally I think Granville was David Jason's greatest role, and Arkwright was possibly Ronnie Barker's. Who's with me? OUT SOON! @episodenumbernine.bsky.social

Mark Kermode keeps talking about the Goon Show episode The Histories of Pliny The Elder on his podcast with Mayo. I've lost count of the number of times he's mentioned it. I really should get him on the show. We could talk about that and the fact Blatty co-wrote A Shot In The Dark.

There was a time when Harry Secombe was billed above Peter Sellers. This show from September 1955 also included impressionist Janet Brown, a friend of the Goons from the early Grafton Arms days, and a clown act called 'The Three Buffoons' (the joke being they sat around and talked philosophy)

I actually like this moment because it confirms a theory of mine. People sometimes say Columbo's evidence is too wonky to secure conviction. They never go to jail, they all end up mentally broken. The Roddy McDowall one shows the perp snap, the Fisher Stevens one shows us the psychotic hallucination

I'm listening to Jonn Elledge reading his latest book 31 Inventions That Built Our World and it's great and I'm sure it's just his natural delivery but he does sound like he's often on the verge of swearing peevishly. Actually that makes it even better.

Very sad to hear of the death of Stephanie Cole. From her winning sitcom work in Open All Hours and Waiting For God (and not forgetting Cabin Pressure on the radio) through serious roles in the likes of Tenko, she was always a joy to watch and ALWAYS had the last word!

Wow! I just had legitimate cause to say to an old woman in Next, in response to her staring at me smiling and saying I reminded her of someone, that I don’t look like him at all. I wish I’d had the guts to follow up with “You look more like him than I do.”
