We just learned that season 4 of the Beavis and Butthead reboot premieres on Comedy Central (which still exists) on Oct. 14th (scheduled to exist). I think it's our best season. Sam and I wrote one where B&B get lost in the woods and start their own civilization. But there's even dumber ones too!

I still think that studios attempting to copy Netflix and throwing everything into streaming and the binge watching model only to realize it wasn't profitable in the way cable TV and theater releases were... has played a greater role in project and job decline than most people talk about

Pretty much all I ever wanted to do was make board driven cartoons, and that pipeline just dont exist anymore in studio animation. I'm so lucky that I got to do it for a couple years on Rocko and Luna.

thinking about how specific animators would be leads on specific characters and how that was more akin to casting an actor to a character and how that probably gave senior animators more leverage and so of course studios stopped doing it and all characters got mushed into one style of motion.

Solvable but requires a studio to not be frozen by analysis paralysis. 1) 20 episodes per greenlight. 2) Greenlight a new season based on gut belief in it, not based on waiting until numbers come in. This was TV for decades. Movies you can wait around for numbers, TV you can't. They're different.

Modern execs are treating this like a revelation and not a problem that they invented. Studio heads are now so inept and craven that they will not greenlight a season 2 of almost anything until they have comprehensive viewer data - this alone creates a 2 year gap in seasons.

Today is the 25 year anniversary of Adult Swim. I was already a big Space Ghost fan and recorded the first night on VHS - then watched it over and over. I was 14 at the time, and 10 years later I was working on Robot Chicken. Despite it's issues, Adult Swim holds a very special place in my heart.
