meme: the cover of a hardcover book titled "Everything I don't like is SOCIALISM"

subtitle "A BOOK FOR BASIC DICKHEADS"

pictured is a young man wearing what appears to be a high school football team jacket, pointing to an engine in a truck with the hood opened, with the quote:

"This engine is SOCIALISM"

the system worked before for those willing to put in the work and move to where the work was. this seems to me like he wants to give special treatment to people failed by the education system that his party has been systematically dismantling for the past 25 years.

the people in those "small towns" wanted to stay in their small towns with their families. those who were open to moving to a bigger city and going to a big (usually liberal-leaning) university often did.

When colonization came to call in the US, many folks wrote about america as a pristine Eden whose forest were filled with delights and bounty. This was because indigenous folk (Like mine) built up food forest. Things that were razed and destroyed as a part of racist violence. Colonization is ongoing

why a lot of very talented people are out of work. not because the AI is doing better work, but because the infinite amount of investment required to build its infrastructure has and continues to suck away any possible investment into anything else. paulkrugman.substack.com/p/ai-versus-...

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

Just an FYI for folks, automation for bug tracking and testing has been a thing since at least when I started in AAA in 2016, so it pre-dates genAI quite a bit. I'm still in a wait-and-see for Capcom, but people being confused about old tech vs genAI is what the current techbros want.

When you use LLMs — even if you think what you're doing is innocuous, even if you're "just" using them as a tool, even if you're merely using them to "look things up" — this is what you are contributing to. If you are actually a writer, this should make up your mind for you.

They're holding up a major escalation in Iran and a crackdown on abortion until after the midterms to limit political damage. To the extent that the last two years have been a right-wing smash-and-grab operation, the next two will be worse.

Something tells me that the people pushing the argument of AI being just another change in the wheel of life might not have completely thought it through, or maybe are just hypocrites.

tom @tomhunt.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
We're told to accept change and that "this is the future, deal with it" on one hand but then "oh but think of all these people with jobs" as soon as its about actually-problematic industries when real alternatives are proposed that involve those reducing or eliminating the need for those industries.

tom @tomhunt.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
If we aren't supposed to have a problem with entire fields of employment being replaced with AI, bc "change happens", why was there ever a problem with replacing the health insurance industry with a single-payer system, or the oil industry with EV materials production and plastics alternatives?

A key component of the Cambridge Analytica outrage was your friends subjecting you to data theft without your consent or knowledge. Facebook is running the same playbook on your text messages. Even if you’re not on Meta properties, they’re ingesting your interactions.
Aten installed Muse on both his iPhone and a Mac mini that he uses to test out various Al agents and tech. It took Meta a single day to begin "helpfully" pitching article ideas based on texts he'd sent to a podcast co-host.
When he asked Muse how it got the information, it said that it read banners from incoming texts. But that's not true, either.
After doing a little digging, Aten says Muse synced 187,000 lines from his Messages database, despite Full Disk Access being Off.Unless Aten is the most popular person on the face of the planet, I sincerely doubt he'd gotten 187,000 lines of text in roughly 24 hours. What happened is that, without permission, Muse went into the app and downloaded the information.
He had not given Muse permission to access Messages, and full disk access was not enabled. It just went ahead and uploaded those texts anyway.
Muse can take "unexpected actions" indeed.
