Traditional gilder, ophthalmic tech, and a fan of rainy weather… you know, that so-called “bad” weather. Big fan of stone -especially ancient standing stones.

We archaeologists tell the stories of the stones not to erase their mystery, not to undo their role as anchoring post for folklore, but to transmit the Long Neolithic. We give context for ghosts, provide new reasons for lithic pilgrimage. – Dr. K. Brophy #StandingStoneSunday

Harald Sohlberg (1869-1935, Norway) created works that evoke the wild nature of the Nordic landscape, from the softness of its flower fields to the harsh beauty of its winters. The often dusk/twilight periods in which Sohlberg's landscapes are set creates a certain mystical mood. Fiskerhuset (1906)

Gösta Hübinette (Sweden, 1897–1980) was known for the extensive, artisanal manipulation of his photographs. He had a strong preference for atmospheric, melancholic landscapes. Within Pictorialism, the goal was not to record reality in a purely documentary fashion, but to convey a painterly quality.
The work is a classic example of Pictorialism, a style in which photography is approached like painting, often featuring an atmospheric, dark, and dreamy tonality. It depicts a hilly landscape at twilight or by moonlight, with two trees and a prehistoric monument (such as a dolmen or *hunebed*) in the center. The signature "G. Hübinette 1928" is visible in the bottom right of the print.

Andrei Dobrynin is a contemporary Russian artist (1985). Dobrynin has a passion for painting directly from nature. His work can be divided into two extremes: ‘en plein air’ painting and nocturnes. In addition to his intimate smaller oil paintings on canvas, Dobrynin creates massive, imposing murals.
The work depicts an atmospheric evening or night landscape (a nocturne) featuring tree silhouettes and a young crescent moon against a blue twilight sky with clouds.

Only few pieces of furniture from early medieval times have been preserved. Due to the water-logged condition of the area, many wooden objects such as this terrific chair made from maple and ash wood survived in a burial at Trossingen. Dating 580 AD. 📷 @almbawue.bsky.social 🏺 #archaeology
Full shot of a wooden chair. The chair's back is a made of numerous vertical wooden slats, that are spaced evenly and have small, evenly-spaced pieces attached between each major slat.  The chair's frame is constructed of several interconnected wooden pieces forming a rectangular base.  The chair's seat frame is also made of a slatted design. The leather or fur seat has not survived.

A bright, crisp sunrise over Lake Winnipeg this morning. Perfect conditions for a walk.
The bright orange ball of the sun just peeks over the horizon in the mostly clear sky. A small smudge of grey/orange clouds are smeared around the top of the image. The bright orange sunbeams sweep across the enormous snow-covered frozen lake lighting up, the purple coloured snow. A few grasses poke out of the snow in the foreground on the shore.

Heather Blanchard is a professional fine art landscape painter based in Scotland. She has been painting for over thirty years and is known for her delicate oil paintings of birds, leaves, and trees silhouetted against the light. She is noted for her keen sense of composition. Winter Stubble Field
This painting, titled Winter Stubble Field captures a serene winter landscape.
A snow-covered stubble field dominates the foreground and middle ground, with distinct curved lines of stubble emerging from the snow. A snowy track leads the viewer's eye into the distance.
A dark, dense hedge line runs along the left side, topped by several tall, bare trees with intricate, dark silhouettes against a pale, clear sky.

Where children learn and old lords rest deep in rural England. At St James’s, Somerton, Oxfordshire, village life seems timeless. Here, I was struck by how a transient moment of modern life was left as but a shadow by the tomb chest of Sir Thomas Fermor (d.1580) and his second wife Bridget Bradshaw.
View of a church chapel lit by large windows in which a large tomb chest with effigies can be seen alongside a children’s learning area with a circle of chairs and a small blackboard.

In the background, an actual bridge of similar design can be seen, partially obscured by trees. Next to the man, a yellow diamond-shaped road sign reads "DRAW BRIDGE AHEAD". Dutchman Richard van Mensvoort was born in 1972 and, as a child, was interested with drawing anything that caught his eye. People, animals, everyday life… Richard still gets inspired by the same subjects that attracted him as a child. As a modern impressionist, he captures every day life in oil.
