More websites should start by telling me how well i did something a few weeks back.

Black and white film still. A bunch of men with moustaches (and one woman, sans moustache) wearing 19th century military uniforms, medals, braids etc. studiously attend to a table with a bunch of toy soldiers in formation, a map, and a bottle of russian vodka on it.

Only took me 8 years and 3 copies of Into The Breach but I finally got all the medals. I got close on Steam a few years back but then a cloud saving issue wiped my progress.
Into the Breach screen grabs of the Global & Squad goals. Got them all.

10/10 All new shops should just adapt the old shop's signage like this
Photo of a hanging sign for "Massage Acupuncture 210". The bold san-serif letters are placed one by one diagonally across a square board which previously bore some other logo, the cursive squiggles of which can be made out under the ad-hoc typography of the new business.

Just watched Backrooms (its fine). Feels like a film that will have tons of sequels which expand on the "lore" in profoundly stupid ways

I always forget the 13 has that lens flare on the cover. Such a strange choice, very "It's 1999 and I've just discovered the filters menu in photoshop" (i say this as someone who discovered the filters menu in photoshop in 1999)

What a beautiful game! Look at the colours used here - magical work! :D
A screenshot from D&D RPG Secret of the Silver Blades (DOS). 2/3rds of the screen is displaying a special event graphic, a first-person view of my characters peering into a deep square stone mineshaft. The colours used, mostly because it's all they had, include hot pinks and bright greens, but they're used expertly, in a manner that suggests light and shadow while giving the scene a magical air.

A thing I love about Splotter games is how they really lean into the absurdity of modeling complex real world systems in reductive boardgame form.

A David Attenborough boardgame: Zoo Quest (1959)
A small game box the cover of which bears a picture of David Attenborough pasted on to an illustration of foliage and animals peeking out from behind a big yellow scrolly shape with the bright red bold text "ZOO QUEST - by arrangement with the BBC"

The box sits on a big green board bearing the same image (the back of the game board)The box is opend revealing two decks of cards (green and red) backed with foliage patterns. A stack of paper money issued by "ZOO QUEST BANK" and "RULES for playing the game of ZOO QUEST" there's also an incredibly yellowed wax paper back containing some coloured game components The board is open. It's a big colourfuly illustrated map of Africa showing geographical features and the location of various African and ocean dwelling animals (also a swamp dragon)some a hand of game cards the uppermost card reads at the top "Questing? Illness forces yout to return to base for treatment before resuming quest. Keep this card until you reach base" and then upside down at the bottom of the card "Charter plane hazard. Weather report good for all areas. Happy landings!"

tunnels of doom, title screen, ti-99/4a (1982) www.mobygames.com/game/16598/t...
the funkiest title font you'll possibly ever see with every letter a different (mostly dangerous) trap or enemy (the u is filled with green acid, the n's are long necked monsters, the e is spikes, the l is an open mouth with teeth, the d is an open door, the m is a skull spider, etc. the title font fills up the side of a passageway, which shows three adventurers (purple person, holding small weapon, black robed wizard, holding staff and a smaller person, holding something) walking left towards a staircase that leads down to a green dragon.

Saw a self driving waymo in the wild this morning, blocking a junction in the city of London whilst pedestrians streamed round the front and the back of it. Hopefully as they continue to roll these out we'll see more of them holding up traffic to let pedestrians walk the streets freely

A photo of a page from Gand Royal issue 2. Titled Ancient History of The Mullet. THe sentence in question which has the word "hell" highlighted:
"Important men like Charlemaigne (742-814 A.D.) said to hell with this noise and grew their hair as long as they liked, as did the dreaded Visigoths, Vikings and other "Mullitia" who held feral sway over this importunate era."

Just incredible shoebill awareness-raising from this Hong Kong teens' magazine
Photographs of a dinosaur-looking bird, the shoebill, and popstar Sabrina Carpenter, overlaid with a height comparison showing both are 152 cm, with visual graphics saying the magazine's name SSWAGGER and some Chinese characters Photographs of a shoebill and popstar Sabrina Carpenter overlaid with a height comparison showing that, yes indeed, both are just 152 cmI can't even begin to describe this photograph. I think that might be Taylor Swift on a night out with Sabrina Carpenter. But Sabrina is photoshopped to have a shoebill face and talons, with wing-tips coming out her coat but still Sabrina's hair

To roughly quantify this I recently did some testing on the CB archive. Most of the 2025 links that don't work are twitter because the testing script wasn't logged in, but I consider links to twitter unreliable at the best of times so... (Exx-usually means a DNS error)
Split bar chart showing nearly 40% of links from content made in 2011 are giving some kind of error. Falling to less than 10% of links from 2025

The playful, prolific use of hyperlinks in online journalism (eg Slate, Pitchfork) didn’t anticipate link-rot. Now so many articles are pock-marked with cryptic allusions that some long-dead link once explained. Weird how quickly a new style comes to feel more archaic than the traditional format
