Black and white film still. A bunch of men with moustaches (and one woman, sans moustache) wearing 19th century military uniforms, medals, braids etc. studiously attend to a table with a bunch of toy soldiers in formation, a map, and a bottle of russian vodka on it.

10/10 All new shops should just adapt the old shop's signage like this
Photo of a hanging sign for "Massage Acupuncture 210". The bold san-serif letters are placed one by one diagonally across a square board which previously bore some other logo, the cursive squiggles of which can be made out under the ad-hoc typography of the new business.

I have ~800 CDs and was in a similar position of never listening to them, when it came time to move I took the decision to get rid of all the cases, keeping the booklets, and pack them into these two CD storage crates. They now live in the kitchen along with a CD player and get loads of use

Yeah, complete crashout for me. Blue and purple fine (though purple still pretty uscentric) , yellow and green basically impossible. Pretty much the opposite of the official difficulty rating

A David Attenborough boardgame: Zoo Quest (1959)
A small game box the cover of which bears a picture of David Attenborough pasted on to an illustration of foliage and animals peeking out from behind a big yellow scrolly shape with the bright red bold text "ZOO QUEST - by arrangement with the BBC"

The box sits on a big green board bearing the same image (the back of the game board)The box is opend revealing two decks of cards (green and red) backed with foliage patterns. A stack of paper money issued by "ZOO QUEST BANK" and "RULES for playing the game of ZOO QUEST" there's also an incredibly yellowed wax paper back containing some coloured game components The board is open. It's a big colourfuly illustrated map of Africa showing geographical features and the location of various African and ocean dwelling animals (also a swamp dragon)some a hand of game cards the uppermost card reads at the top "Questing? Illness forces yout to return to base for treatment before resuming quest. Keep this card until you reach base" and then upside down at the bottom of the card "Charter plane hazard. Weather report good for all areas. Happy landings!"

To roughly quantify this I recently did some testing on the CB archive. Most of the 2025 links that don't work are twitter because the testing script wasn't logged in, but I consider links to twitter unreliable at the best of times so... (Exx-usually means a DNS error)
Split bar chart showing nearly 40% of links from content made in 2011 are giving some kind of error. Falling to less than 10% of links from 2025

Had a bit of time to work on this over the last couple of days. More or less works from a layout point of view though I'm going to shift the borders of La Habana province (as I've noticed they do on the original board) as things a re bit tight even if I scale up the map a bit.
4 low toner A4 printouts taped together t make a map of Cuba. There are some board game pieces on top.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the original board. It's fine. My aim was to 1. make it feel a bit more like an artefact of the time, like a real map, and 2. decrease the visual noise and increase the contrast between the board and the player components

A really neat site looking at mode share in differences across cities, it doesn't really try to assess how good a transport system is other than implicitly (by usage) but you can see the same pattern of US cities being terrible for both public transport and active travel vis.csh.ac.at/citiesmoving/

re Jose Saramago and dogs: This is from Ursula Le Guin's review of his last novel (I've read enough of his books now to be able to confirm that this simple ranking system is correct esp if as Le Guin suggests you count elephants as dogs) www.theguardian.com/books/2010/j...
In the last phrase of this eloquent sentence, Saramago doesn't say fellow-men, but fellow-creatures. To him "man" is not the sole subject of human interest, in whom all value and meaning inheres, but a member of a large household. Saramago's reminder to us that we aren't the be-all and end-all of creation is, usually, a dog. I developed a simple ranking system for his fiction: the books with a dog are better than the ones with no dog; the more important the dog, the better the book.
