Toebeans 🐾 murder mitten edition. I drew this in Procreate. Illustration of a grey cute cat with fire in their eyes peeking over the handle of a bloody axe. There's a pool of blood in the shape of Massachusetts underneath. Second is a variation in purple, no MA.

Fiction rec: Gideon the Ninth. Moira Quirk's narration is brilliant to return to for my Nth listen. I bounced off the audiobook the first time, read it with my eyes the second and fell in love when I came back Image credit: www.beniciamagazine.com
Dramatically lit photograph featuring the paperback editions of Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth. A teeny skeleton rests its hands on top. There's a black candle in a bronze candle stick and the shadow of a bat on the wall.

Is this Art or Craft? It's badass is what it is. I painted, taped a pattern, painted again, sanded off the pattern, carved, experimented with filling the carving that wouldn't pop out when hitting a target, got an air brush... When I say I'm a process nerd it also means this kind of process.

The reason all this trauma sh*t is so hard to push back against in our head is because it's been on repeat for decades. Our brain was literally, physically molded around beliefs & experiences authored by our abusers. It'd be weird if reprogramming ourselves in recovery was easy.

Improvised a light table with tubelox and old IKEA finds so that the older kiddo could draw a map on graph paper for a new version of his board game. Currently plays a bit like a cross between Risk and DnD. Next parent job is to nudge toward collab instead of world domination.
Person with face obscured by nerd face emoji is hunched over a glowing table tracing a map. The table is made from yellow tubes, a lamp balanced on its side, and a translucent glass top. The background is cluttered.

Because both Dems and GOP like having a police force that can crush Black protest without accountability. Like I said, racism is just fascism practiced on Black people first.

You don't need to be sure "the next right thing" is categorically, objectively the next "right" thing. Recovery involves LOTS of educated guesses. Just do your best, pay attention, remember your recovery goals today, & course correct as you go. Easy does it. You've got this.

I realise this is a bit underspecified: in both pottery and calligraphy, you stabilise the arm and loosen the wrist to achieve more stable and finer control and responsiveness. Tension at the edges makes for more friction and chaotic instability. Looseness at the edges allows more adaptation.

Happy to share that for #GivingTuesday I've created my 5th (!) edition of Ryan's Community Giving Guide for SE Michigan. Please share widely, and let me know if you discover/donate to someone new through this work - it really helps! You can grab the full PDF version at www.henyard.com/giving
Cover of Ryan's Community Giving Guide - 2024-25 for Southeast Michigan. Main image is a photo of a sandhill crane, head bowed forward, with its heart-shaped crest centered in the frame ahead of a flurry of grey feathers. Bottom of the image has the Creative Commons attribution information (CC-BY-NC-SA) and a tag saying ' Created by Ryan Henyard (me!) v5.0 - henyard.com/giving - edit and adapt for your own communitytext from the 'about the author' page: I originally created this giving guide as a way to amplify the challenges my communities were facing in 2020, and I’ve heard from lots of people who expressed a desire to help but don’t know where to start or who to support. I created this guide to highlight and uplift some of the important work happening, and encourage you to choose some of these efforts to support through donations, volunteering or mutual aid for Giving Tuesday and beyond.

For our fifth (!) edition, I have made some additions and changes to the organizations listed in the guide, and expanded sections on programs. Our communities are filled with people dedicated to building a more just and loving future, and I’m glad to be able to share some of that with you.

Because this is centered around my communities and values, it is not a comprehensive guide by any means; the guide and artwork are both available under a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-NC-SA) and I would be elated if others spread love for community-based work in their own communities. The best gift I can receive during this season is knowing someone contributed to these efforts after reading this guide, so feel free to share your support for these community pillars with me on social media or email.

In love and solidarity,
