The Astros having their season ended by the White Sox inspired me to remake my "Houston-sized Chicago" map. It's been 66 years since Chicago last grew by annexation. In an alternate reality where the city grew to match the physical size/shape of Houston (as shown) it'd have twice the population.
A map depicting Houston, TX with the following information:
Land area: 640.44 square miles
2020 population: 2,304,580A map depicting Chicago if it had the same land area and similar shape as Houston
Land area: 640.30 square miles
2020 population: 5,059,448

This map is only 3 miles off from destroying the ‘I’m from Chicago…actually from Naperville’ meme format

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Drawings from a Moving Train, page 11 Rocks and radios I find landscapes easy to adapt when I make mistakes. A careless line becomes a new rock or tree. A Dieter Rams design object is harder to freestyle, so I drew the outlines before the train left the station. #penandink #art #drawing #noai

ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok Are Down
It is apparently not a good day for AI chatbots, as ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok are all down or experiencing issues for many users. OpenAI's status page acknowledges issues across ChatGPT and Codex, while Grok's website notes that it is currently experiencing issues as well. Likewise, Anthropic's status page indicates Claude is experiencing elevated errors. All of the companies are investigating the issues.Tag: ChatGPT This article, "ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok Are Down" first appeared on MacRumors.com Discuss this article in our forums

Is this more expensive? Yes and no! Yes, it’s more capital and maintenance cost for elevators. No, you save a huge amount of floor area from removing corridors, and have more sellable space.

We don't call people who use AI "artists" for the same reason we don't salute civilians who wear military clothes they bought from a costume shop. It's stolen valor.

Tim Wood @timwood.work · 18/06/2026
The ai advocate is arguing that an LLM is a tool like other software, but I think it’s actually a commission. When you ask ChatGPT to create an image, you are not the artist, you are the client. The “artist” is a neural network, and the tools are the huge library of stolen artwork of others
130
Tim Wood @timwood.work · 18/06/2026
I think using the client > commission > artist > tools > artwork language is useful to break the argument down. A client or patron commissions an artist to use their tools to create an artwork. Often, artists will create on their own, acting as both the patron and the artist.

I’ve been getting into composing music using FL Studio recently. Hearing people make the argument that ai is just another digital tool like photoshop or a beat sequencer made me stop and think about why I disagree.
