Revolutionary British artist David Hockney dies aged 88
Bradford painter whose sun-kissed visions of California broke world records at auction has died David Hockney, the iconic British painter who cast a revolutionary gaze across 20th-century art, has died aged 88. He made his name as a pop artist during the swinging 60s and was perhaps best known for his paintings of swimming pools that helped define the Los Angeles aesthetic. Works such as A Bigger Splash and Portrait of an Artist (Pool With Two Figures) depicted hedonistic scenes of love, lust and loss taking place below the city’s sun-soaked skies. Continue reading...

Post from Salma Yaqoob: "Almost feel sorry for the haters who are trying to spin Muslims voting for a woman in a party led by a gay Jewish man is evidence of Islamic sectarianism. In fact it's evidence of genuince tolerance, rejection of superficial identity politics and ability to prioritise tackling common concerns of costs of living, protecting public services and rejecting warmongering. And the promotion of mutual respect and individual freedoms. The coming together of people is terrifying for the ruling elites."

A poster with a rustic background and green leaves reads: "Finland didn’t end homelessness with magic. They just didn’t treat it like a business plan. You can still run a café. Start a band. Sell socks online. Capitalism still works in Finland. But they decided that housing people didn’t need to turn a profit. Because sometimes, the moral thing is the practical thing. And no one thrives when their neighbour is sleeping in a tent by the river. You can’t KPI your way out of a crisis. Sometimes, you just have to give a damn."
