New preprint from our lab, now on bioRxiv! We are VERY excited about this one! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... How does Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) immunity become linked to multiple sclerosis (MS)? (1/8)

T and B cell-mediated immunosurveillance of the central nervous system (CNS) can become maladaptive in multiple sclerosis (MS). Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a likely driver of MS, yet how exactly EBV-s...

It is as if OC43, NL63, HKU1 and 229E did not accept SC2 into the same timeframe. It will be interesting to see if this years SC2 peak is again earlier, from middel September to possibly August, or it may have found the best spot and middle of September is where it settles? 4/4

Should all children be vaccinated against influenza? Most pediatric infectious disease specialists would probably say yes — but universal influenza vaccination for children is still not generally recommended in Germany and many other European countries.

We also evaluated clinical prediction tools for bacterial meningitis. The UK-ChiMES pre-LP score - first described here www.journalofinfection.com/article/S016... - performed best with an NPV of 99.8% (before LP!) and a PPV of 6.4% and may support risk stratification in clinical practice. 3/4

We analyzed 1,198 children undergoing LP for suspected CNS infection in Germany between 2016–2024. • Definite bacterial meningitis was rare (~1%) • Viral meningitis predominated • Encephalitis remained diagnostically challenging • Many cases stayed etiologically unresolved 2/4

Agree. And independent of the actual recommendations: you don’t change these things by posting a video on social media. You need to have an expert committee reevaluate the data (and maybe weigh the pro and cons differently)

To express it in a consciously neutral way: Most (if not all) 🇪🇺 countries stopped vaccinating healthy children against SARS-CoV-2 BUT all 🇪🇺 countries recommend these vaccines for pregnant women! Quite incomprehensible from an international perspective. I feel sorry for our colleagues in the US.

Words matter. It’s time to retire the term oral “step-down.” It implies inferiority of the oral route—and doesn’t align with stewardship principles. Terms like IV to oral switch or oral transition better promote optimal antimicrobial stewardship. What terms do you use—and why? #idsky
