It's a lot easier to achieve from the Treasury though. Handful of bad economic decisions and our defence spending could be at 3% of GDP within a day or two.

It's new Prime Minister day! Days like this don't come every year, just pretty much every year.

It's going to be a while before the politics I'm interested in has happened, so I'm going to deactivate again for a bit. See you later when things have progressed!

Probably the least objectionable thing so far that a Reform councillor has had to quit for.

People are really down on AI but in a few short years we’ve created software that’s smarter, more reliable, and more ethically aware than the President of the United States and the world’s richest man.

heard a guy say "you have to access it through the portal" and i was momentarily struck by how sad it is that what he said is so boring :( "accessing it via the portal" should be wonderful. we deserve that at least. it should be cool to access it via the portal and instead it sucks shit

Starmer may well not be the right person to take Labour into the next election. But surely neither's Streeting? He's unlikely to keep his seat besides anything else.

Think I'm going to deactivate in a bit. It's been nice being back and seeing social media, but I'm increasingly of the opinion that it's not for me. Oh, and one last thing before we go that'll be more relevant for those who know me: we're having a baby in September, so that's nice!

Back, for now. Here’s my lovely cats all curled up together.
Two cats on a patterned duvet cover. Both black and white. They’re both making an ellipse shape. One is larger than another but bother are difficult to distinguish accurately.

Think I’m going to take a little break from here. You’re all a delight of course, well, the ones I follow and interact with, but a post escaped containment, I had a few Nazis to block and I could just *not* be sharing my silly thoughts? Anyway, be back soon, will temporarily deactivate in a while.

Since we’ve set the bar for proscribing an organisation so absurdly low, we should start with Tommy Robinson and all his fascist groups and move on to proscribing X and Tesla for facilitating and funding him.

Sky News says police are "overwhelmed by the numbers". Met coped perfectly well with 2x as many at the pro-Gaza rally, 5x as many at the anti-Brexit march, and 15x as many at London Pride. They're not overwhelmed by the numbers. They're overwhelmed by the ratio of violent thugs in those numbers.

Absolutely !!!insane!!! to me that the UK government, lobby and newspapers litigate at length every minor infraction by the BBC, rival newspapers, or what some random columnist has posted. But all of them just carry on not even commenting about this media owner. He’s not hiding, he’s telling you!

This is the owner of X actively campaigning to take down the elected government of a country he is neither a resident nor a citizen of - and using threats of violence in the streets to further his aims www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...
“My message is to them: if this continues, that violence is going to come to you, you will have no choice. You’re in a fundamental situation here. Whether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you. You either fight back or you die, that’s the truth, I think.”

Exactly this. One recurring realisation from my attempts to educate myself about Charlie Kirk is that he would have had no career at all if his supporters’ characterisations of college campuses were even close to accurate.

Reading the obituary of Lord Lambton after falling down a bit of a Wikipedia hole and very much enjoyed his excuse of how his sex scandal came about because the futility of his job as a junior minister led him to debauchery and gardening.
The scandal which triggered his downfall in May 1973 arose from a photograph of Lambton in bed with two prostitutes while smoking marijuana. When interviewed afterwards by Robin Day, he claimed he had often used "whores for sex" because "people sometimes like variety. It's as simple as that." Documents released 30 years after the scandal revealed that he told an MI5 official he had turned to debauchery - and gardening - because of the futility of his job.

Indeed its important to stress that we denounce Kirk's murder even though he was a despicable person who held abhorent views. We don't need to pretend that he did politics the right way or that he was making a positive contribution to society to say that his murder was wrong.

Fully accept that Twitter is worse because it's run by and for a Nazi, but saying that a very large number of people on Bluesky aren't celebrating Kirk's death is probably down to who you're following, those posts are definitely there and in the majority in search.
