Another wrinkle in this story. Kate Blue's grandson had a grandson who was classmates with my uncle. I found a picture of him in 1956. Personally, I would be delighted to find such an ancestor.

When I was a kid, I announced to my therapist that I had decided on my favorite song lyric, and she guessed correctly: “is it ‘sing you off to sleep as you digest’?”

Didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find the County Jail. As occupation it lists what they're in for, which is really funny.

1880 Census record. William King, Sheriff, listed with wife Kesia, daughter Elizabeth, and father William Sr. Next lists George McKinsey, "stealing horses," Susan Omsley (employee of the jail), Julius Cox, "bastardy," David Bryce, "horse thief," Philip Lee & James McNulty, both "petit larcency."
