Rather difficult not to feel a bit gloomy about the state of the country atm, so I wasn’t going to make much of a thing of this anniversary this year. And then I saw this and started to cry. Because a free and united Germany in a free and united Europe was worth it. And is worth fighting for now.

Our SEND system is failing & families are paying the price. I’ve spoken with parents forced to give up work because their children aren’t getting the support they need. No one should have to choose between earning a living and their child’s care. We urgently need an overhaul of SEND provision.

1/5 📣 The government have appeared to make concessions on the benefits bill but now a new report by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, has found that despite benefit cuts reportedly being proposed as a way of encouraging people into work, there is a significant lack of “disability confident” roles.
A photo of Liz Kendall in a cream blazer speaking in Parliament. The image is slightly blurred. There is a pink text box with white text that says 'Labour's disability benefits bill is supposed to help people into work but the jobs aren't there.'

I’m sorry, the DWP announcing “don’t worry, the benefits u-turn means only 150,000 people will be pushed into poverty now!” is just insane. Cruel, incompetent ghouls who shouldn’t be allowed to run a bath let alone a system sick people rely on to live.
DWP says 150,000 more people pushed into poverty by benefit cuts - not 250,000 as forecast said before U-turn
The Department for Work and Pensions has just published an analysis saying that, allowing for the concesssions announced last week, the welfare cuts will still push an extra 150,000 people into relative poverty.

Every single non-disabled person who is supporting the PIP cuts should be handed a £15k “disability costs” bill each year and asked how they plan on paying it. Because people don’t really need benefits? You’ll be able to find £15k on top of rent, food, utilities and your summer holiday? Right?

The extra cost of being disabled in the UK will rise by almost 12% in five years, says Scope. That means having to find another £15k a year just to live at the same standard as non-disabled people. But MPs should cut PIP tomorrow, right? Seems logical and humane? www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Factors to consider when trying to make the Armed Forces an attractive career choice. 1. Pay. 2. Living Conditions. 3. Welfare. Look after the families as well. 4. Compensation. Before and after death. When a fit 57 yo dies from service in The Gulf, admit it & help the family. Just saying.
