Seriously, what are we doing about Ofsted??? "Poignantly, a few partners of head teachers responded, detailing their worries: “at the end of [an Ofsted visit] I might find myself on suicide watch for the very person I love the most.”"

Some years ago when I was teaching in a high school under inspection, the Headteacher asked every teacher to fill in a small slip after each classroom visit from an Inspector. Slips noted any incidents, behaviour, problems, positive and negative. As they inspected us, we monitored them. Useful.

It was always set up to bully teachers. It was Keith Joseph (he who thought the lower orders shouldn't breed) who decided that education was “failing” because of incompetent teachers. Thatcher‘s regime used the term “failing teachers”, and promised to root them out. Macho bully boy politics

This podcast episode by @covingtonedu.bsky.social has a lot of interesting points about PISA. For example, I had no idea that the sampling doesn't account for how many students are excluded and that in 2012 almost half of 15 year olds were not included in the cycle. How is it representative?

And this tells a very different story. What is happening to children worldwide? Many also share the same juvenile mental health problems with the U.K. It’s time to stop the self congratulatory bilge and start seriously considering the real issues causing this.

So, why do we have record numbers of young people with mental health problems and such a huge % of 18-25 year old NEETs? I’d suggest this must be because the sample examined in this test has been somehow skewed, meaning that the results are not valid.
