Together with @metupuk.bsky.social and @make2ndscount.bsky.social, we’ve written to government representatives in Wales and Northern Ireland to urge them to act quickly to make Enhertu available for use for those with HER2-low metastatic breast cancer on the NHS across these nations.
Dear Ministers,

We're writing to you you following the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)'s landmark decision to approve Enhertu, a life-extending treatment for people with HER2-low metastatic breast cancer.

Since Enhertu was rejected by nice in 2024, we've campaigned tirelessly for this decision, alongside incredible women who need access to this groundbreaking treatment. And we need to see action.

Can you confirm that you will be working to make sure this is available across Wales and Norther Ireland urgently?

I just can’t walk at all sometimes”“I can’t go out and do the things I used to, everything’s just so difficult”“My world has definitely gotten a lot smaller... I had to cancel a dentist appointment as I’m housebound. It’s a word that I hadn’t thought of and didn’t want to use, but that’s what I am now. Housebound.” “I’ve just learned to take each day as it comes. I still go out once a week to do my shopping when I’m feeling fine. I could do it online, but I don’t want to do that. New research from Dr Isaac Garcia-Murillas at the Institute of Cancer Research, London has shown that a new type of ‘tissue-free’ blood test could provide a cheaper, more accessible way to predict breast cancer recurrence. breastcancernow.org/about-us/res...
New Research

New, cheaper blood test could help detect breast cancer recurrence earlierWhat was the aim?

A liquid biopsy is a highly sensitive blood test can spot breast cancer coming back months before it becomes visible on hospital scans.

Right now, these tests aren’t suitable for everyone, because you need detailed information about the tumour to develop a blood test tailored to the person.

In this study, they wanted to find out if a new ‘tissue-free’ liquid biopsy could provide a cheaper, more accessible way to predict breast cancer recurrence earlier. What did they find?

They found that detecting cancer DNA in the blood was a strong sign that breast cancer was likely to return.

On average, these blood tests picked up signs of recurrence around 8 months before the cancer appeared on a scan.

And the new ‘tissue-free’ test worked just as well as more complex tests that rely on information gathered from tumour biopsies. What does this mean?

This research could help make blood tests to detect breast cancer recurrence available to more people in the future.

If future studies show that acting on these warning signs can help stop cancer progressing, doctors could give extra treatment earlier, and stop the disease before it spreads.

Bringing us another step closer to personalised follow-up care for people living beyond breast cancer.

When Kayleigh first discovered a lump, she thought it was just scar tissue at first from a recent boob job. She was then diagnosed with primary breast cancer, and later with stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer.
Hi, I’m Kayleigh. I’m 37. And I have stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer like Lucy Davis - I’m not going to get old. I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2017, after finding a lump. I’d had a boob job, so they thought it was just scar tissue at first.I underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, ovarian shutdown, and radiotherapy. For years I’d thought I’d beaten it.Last year my secondary diagnosis happened by accident. While being tested for a different condition, they discovered the cancer had spread to my liver and spine.

When Becky first found a lump she had no idea what would come next. She now tries ‘to find small positives in each day, even on the days that feel dark and overwhelming.’ Whatever breast cancer brings, we're here. Find the support you need: breastcancernow.org/all-services
Hi, I’m Becky. I am a 36-year-old mum of 6-year-old twins and a nurse. And I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer in 2025.I found my lump initially in the shower after randomly deciding to do a check. I am so glad I did as scans showed I had 5 tumours in total.I had chemotherapy and targeted therapy followed by a single mastectomy and node clearance to my armpit. I have faced PICC line sepsis, and attendances to A&E for possible infections.I do not recognise myself anymore at times and I have struggled with my appearance changing which I didn't think I would. I have been completely broken at times.

Hi, I’m Moke. After finishing treatment for triple negative breast cancer, I realised that recovery is about much more than the end of chemotherapy and radiotherapy - it is about learning to embrace life again.
Moving Forward helped me focus on living well rather than simply recovering. It reminded me that I was not alone.Meeting others who truly understood the journey created a safe and supportive environment where we could share experiences, encourage one another and look ahead with hope.Moke’s journey is exactly why Moving Forward matters.

This year we’re celebrating 3 decades of our partnership with Asda Tickled Pink, who fully fund our Moving Forward courses.

Thank you Asda Tickled Pink for helping us be there for people like Moke.

An image of Sally at her graduation. Hi, I'm Sally. 30 years ago I qualified as a nurse, and I could never have imagined all that the years since would hold. A newspaper cut out. Most of my career has been in cancer care, and the changes I’ve seen in that time have been extraordinary. Through all of it one thing has stayed constant, people still need evidence based trusted information and support. Our Breast Cancer Now nursing team. So it really does feel special that Tickled Pink was born in 1996 too - the same year I qualified. They've stood by Breast Cancer Now for 30 years, fuelling incredible progress. Their funds support the helpline I work on, and they directly fund 2 of our nurses picking up the phones too. A staff portrait of Sally now. Happy anniversary Tickled Pink - thank you for everything you do for Breast Cancer Now! We can't wait to see what the next 30 years can bring!
