I’m thinking these are all brits (except Obama of course) from over here across the pond, it was very much ubiquitous colorblind racism over here before Obama. During his 8yrs, we moved toward a more truthful and more accountable way of *talking* about it. Then an enormous backlash.

I’m mixed-race, I’ve never been the same color as any of my family members except my younger brother. Even my (half) sister is a different color (also younger). I don’t remember a time I’ve ever thought of myself as normal. I remember around middle school taking up the slogan “I’d rather be weird”

Your post made me curious so I looked it up. Apparently Italian Americans advocated for it all the way back in the late 1700s. Then it became a bigger thing c. 1892 after a spate of lynchings of Italian-Americans which isn’t exactly what I expected….
