Yesterday, I played Sleeping Gods: Primeval Peril. I've had the original game and Distant Skies sitting on the shelf for years. I figured we might as well get things started with their smaller sibling. And in *not small* news, another big box has arrived on my doorstep. Uh oh. 😄 #boardGames
Sleeping Gods: Primeval Peril. A spiral-bound book is open to show a map and some enemy creatures. Each player has some character boards in front of them with tokens on top to track various statuses. There’s a central board showing their shared boat and its status. Food Chain Magnate: Deluxe Edition. The cover art shows various restaurant and diner employees in a ‘50s style. It says “100% Dice Free! Served with your choice of strategies!” and “Ketchup Mechanism Expansion Set Included”.

whenever people say “cancel culture isn’t real, it’s just facing the consequences of your actions” I think about all the people who were the target of the internet’s hate for things they didn’t do, or for things that had much more nuance. it can ruin lives, over things that often do not matter

I've joined a wonderful music platform/co-op, @subvert.fm. I don't have much music to share at the moment, but the concept sounds lovely. So I wanted to support them as best as I can. Looking forward to finding some great new music to listen to, as well. www.subvert.fm/christopher-...

I don't think whoever designed this customer support page realized the absolute tragic poetry they were writing about the world at large.
A screenshot from a website. The text on top reads:

When did you purchase your item?
To provide you with the best possible support, we need to understand when you made your purchase.

The bottom part has three boxes:

The left box shows "Legacy Era" in black text above the dates "1848 – 2024". The middle box shows "Private Equity Era" in black text above the dates "January 1, 2024 – November 14, 2025". The right box shows "Current Era" in black text above the dates "November 14, 2025 and later".

I'll admit ignorance on the standard editorial practice, but if you use quote marks, I think it's expected that you cite who said them. Otherwise, I'm going to assume it was just you, in which case you didn't need the quotes, and now I'm suspicious. Suspicious of you, Santa.

This is one of those times when one (read: I) might forget others don't have the context they have. I work in an ML-adjacent field. And in my mind: Yeah, of course an LLM is going to need labeling and annotation for training. So it's very likely someone's going to be seeing inputs.

When I saw this book, I immediately ran to buy a copy for myself. (…well, like, the sort of "running" you do when you flip from one browser tab to the next in a hurried fashion.) And it has arrived! Some fun and interesting puzzles in my future, for sure. Thanks for highlighting it, Thinky Games!

I know I'm watching an interview *about* Big Walk, but I'm afraid all interviews on any topic from this point on should be conducted in Big Walk. It's just too good. (It's a great interview, by the way: Highly recommended, perhaps once you've played a bit of the game yourself first?)

Just as Ludwig returns for a second series, I found out that the soundtrack was released on #vinyl for last year's Record Store Day. Naturally, I had to pick up a copy. The track list on the back is a lovely touch. The insert also features an acrostic puzzle.
Ludwig soundtrack on vinyl. The art shows Ludwig and Lucy standing in a room decorated as a crossword. The hype sticker says it’s a limited Record Store Day exclusive, and this is copy 198 of 500. The reverse side of the jacket shows the track list. They’re arranged as though they were in a crossword. The A-side tracks are printed as Across answers, and the B-side tracks are the Downs.

Yesterday was International Crokinole Day, so… I played crokinole! And also Wingspan Pocket and the second chapter of Adventure Games: Monochrome Inc. (not pictured). I'm still not good at crokinole, but honestly I prefer it that way. #boardGames
Crokinole. A large wooden board with a hole in the middle surrounded by rubber pegs. There are orange and green discs on the board as well as in a gutter around the board. Wingspan Pocket. Each player has a row of cards showing various birds, as well as a separate collection of cards showing either birds or different types of food. There’s a central market of similar cards and a tray full of plastic eggs.

"White is Milk"
A cotton candy vending machine. The top is lit up with a cotton candy and a star. The words “cotton candy” have animal ears and a bow. There’s a star with a label that says “flower”. A video is playing on a screen with animal ears. There’s a large opening where the cotton candy is probably made. There’s a sign on the right with flavor information. Below that, there’s a circular door that says “Door will open when finished”. The bottom of the machine says “Something Simple Super Good”Flavor Options:

Pink is Strawberry
Yellow is Lemon
Blue is Blueberry
Green is Apple
Purple is Grape
White is Milk

Each has a picture of the item with cute eyes and a smile. The milk one has a smiling cow standing on two feet beside the word “Milk” in white with a glass of milk as the “i”.

This past week has been mostly taken up by Big Walk, so no #boardGames. But last week I played Duel of Meloch (from @stonemaiergames.com). I've been looking forward to giving this one a try since it was announced, and it was super fun. Can't wait to test out some other matchups.
Duel of Meloch. A central board is made up of hexagonal spaces, each showing a different location. Plastic, metal, and wooden mechs and pieces are spread throughout the board. The near player has a setup for Scythe, whereas the far player is set for Expeditions. There are some cards and other tokens in the center.

It's been really nice being behind on Only Connect, because we've had so many episodes available to watch. But the problem with having so many episodes available to watch is that we've now caught up and are short on episodes again. Hmm, how many of these old questions do we think we remember? 😄
