I learned about him from QI.

An image of a man with a multitude of injuries and the weapons that caused them. The accompanying Wikipedia summary begins:
Wound Man
The Wound Man is a surgixal diagram which first appeared in European medical manuscripts of the 14th and 15th centuries. The illustration acted as an annotated table of contents to guide the reader through various injuries and diseases whose related cures could be found on the texts nearby pages....

Artwork of a scene from the XFILES episode 'Milagro'. Mulder and Scully are looking at another character (off camera). Scully is mainly in shadow, and Mulder is more in the light. Graphite drawing, with washes of watercolour and ink. Black and white.

Pencil drawing of a cat in shadow. The light source is stronger on it's eyes, with the left eye more in shadow. It is looking directly at the camera.

Low saturation drawing of a barn owl. The owl is looking to the right, and has a petals from a decaying sunflower around the back of it's head. The background of the image is dark.

Graphite drawing of a dolls head I bought on Ebay. The image is only of the head, and is slightly tilted on it's side. There appears to be smoke coming from it's eyes. The angle is slightly from below. The artwork is entitled 're-birth'.

Thanks! Not only did I settle on a visual style before I started, I also started incorporating symbols and other things from earlier drawings into the later ones. The thing about a deck you draw yourself is that you can REALLY lean into the story of the deck.

I just spotted inkling as a token prompt for #tokentober. I have a pair I did to go with this Inkshield I made.

A Silverquil student with a partly shaved head and sharp cheekbones is geaturing with both hands, while a black ink swirls in an S curve so tight it's nearly a figure 8. There are 5 arrows caught in the shield.

Inkling tokens drawn as black cats leaping and hunting. The one on the left is framed by a grey rectangle and is leaping and clawing in a diagonal from bottom left to upper right. The one on the right is leaping and twisting with both claws ready to grab something. There are three grey circles in the background.

Sometimes, committing to a splash of red in every piece was harder than in others. I liked the idea of scrolls growing on trees, but didn't really love the red sun on the tree line in the end.

Pair of Sylvan Libraries. A thick tree spreads across both cards with dark rivulets on either side. From its branches hang red scrolls with text on them. On the right, beneath another tree in the woods is a skull, representing the dangers of the life paid to keep all the extra cards you draw.

Four Bayou. A swampy scene with a red sunset reflected in the algae covered water. Behind a dark line of trees is another, lighter set of trees, the tops of which are catching the sun, making an uneven red line through the composition.

I mean, there's a lot of reductionism going on, but this is the gist.

Text of screenshit
I know there was some controversy a few years back
Wasn't it "I support a mob of antivaxxer insurectionists" ? I guess that's controversial alright.
Overall, there's no shortage of talented artists on the planet, I don't think WotC feels the need to hire "controversial" ones. Not that WotC wouldn't throw a few truckloads of kittens in an acid vat for a few extra % sales, don't get me wrong. But they don't need to hire someone who's very publicly doing
Kyleometers . 4y ago
It was also that when asked "Hey could you distance yourself from the white supremacists", he said "That's not it, there's people from all walks of life here"
Many people consider "wouldn't back away from white supremacists" damning.

To my knowledge, they were shown to be intertwined. To what extent and in what direction, I'm not sure. It becomes a moot point when, afaik, once they became associated, the truckers didn't distance themselves.

Anything worth doing is worth doing //*math_noises.mp3*// is worth doing eighty times. Prepped out the pages one night, got paint on two sheets yesterday. Plains page needs another coat or so of paint, beige page is good to go in the Blank Bank. #art #mtg #acrylic #alter #mtgalter

Image shows cards being taped to pages in a two by four layout. All stages are shown, blank sheets, stack of cards, partial sheet, painters tape, and full pages.

Image shows the mental state of the artist-- wait no I mean image shows ten pages of eight cards each. Five pages, one of each of the basic lands, the other five pages of booster chaff / arena ad cards.

Underpainting values on a sheet of plains. Diy wet pallet, brush w/rest.

One day's work, two pages shown. Top page is the underpainted plains and needs another coat of paint for chroma, bottom sheet is all flat colors and is good to add to the bank of blanks.

Getting things up and running needs a little extra help to prevent stalling. Saw In Half turns one zombie wizard into two, making us almost unstoppable. Dryad Arbor is the only card in the game we can chuck to get BB *and* a zombie. Speaking of, look at the half size Bone Misers!

A pair of Saw In Half depicting the Bone Miser being bisected. We see only his face and hands, but a thick red gash divides the pair. The face rags are cut and the features are just slightly starting to pivot in opposite directions.

Dryad Arbor. A smiling dryad with red eyes like poppies. From her ribs down, she's tree, and from one side of her head, another branch joins her again with her tree. Moss or lichen cover her chest and forearms. The tree is mostly dark foliage with a few fairly large red leaves here and there to add color.

Really simplified redraws of the original Bone Miser art. The cards are made by cutting a full size card in half, so the tokens are truly a card cut in half. There's a scribble for the black card frame, abbreviated rules text, adjusted power and toughness, and even "zombie wiz" for card type.

When your engine costs 10 mana to assemble if you hard cast everything, ramp and mana fixing are kinda key.

A playset of Lotus Petal proxies. The images combine to make an entire lotus flower. In the center of each drawing is a petal with a red fluid that pours from the top, through the other two petals to fill the bottom border.

Dark Ritual playset proxies. The four images form a red magic circle carved into a stone surface circumscribed with black runes. At four points around the circle are smaller circles that correspond to the phases of the moon. Clockwise from top left the spaces are filled with ritual objects: a ram's horn, a bowl of red liquid, a pile of ash, a very old dagger.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth combined into a single landscape. On the left. The ruined Citadel dominates the landscape from a distance with a red sky and low-hanging moon. In front and on the right is a giant, twisting tree, only the trunk of which is in frame. Between the two locations, the ground is misty. Also visible is a dark river, small vents of gas, black, barren trees, and a sun low on the right side.

My current project is even older than the Leviathan deck I spent two years on! I started this embellished pauper deck as I was finishing my Bone Miser deck, and am picking the project back up before choosing my next deck to illustrate. Just boosting contrast with fine liners and white gel pen.

Unhallowes Phalanx from Double Feature. The black and wbite illustration of a highly organized zombie advance has been embellished to have deeper shadows and brighter highlights.

A slightly blurry photo of a before and after showing the difference in values after my mark making.

Blood Pact, also from Double Feature with the same technique applied. A cultist stands before a jagged altar of some kind and offers a smoking bowl of something unseen.

Another, unfortunately also blurry comparison photo.
