Me, circa 2013. Having crossed mainland Canada by bike, I look to the future, October 6, 2026 when my eldest daughter will say: “I hate the car, the car is the worst thing. I just want to bike everywhere.” My work is done.

Throwback to the OPPI Toronto District’s tour of the rooftop garden at TMU in June. Since my time at TMU as a student, the facilities have expanded to include a second garden that offers public access (for students and the world). Very impressive spaces and well executed programming.

Loving the seating & landscaping at the new Dawn Redwood Park in near Yonge & Eglinton. Amid all the local construction, this is a small but great public space for the community.

Full-sized SUVs are pedestrian killers. New research finds that they're more than twice as likely to kill or seriously injure a pedestrian than other cars. (Notably, vehicle height—not weight—was the biggest risk factor.) doi.org/10.1016/j.js...

Indeed. But yet in the many years that Ford didn’t ban lane removal for bike lanes, much of our bike infrastructure was either studied via a pilot or cobbled together with temporary barriers. There’s a lack of ambition in our approach.

Arterial roads in the neighborhood link bike lanes, subway stations and bus lanes. Nothing is temporary. Not a pilot study in sight - incrementalism is for cowards.

This is Ahuntsic, a Montréal suburb about 10 km from the City Centre. If they can build protected, permanent and beautiful cycling infrastructure here, Toronto has no excuses.

Given the constant threats our dedicated bike lanes in Toronto, we should be aggressively doubling down on other changes to our roads that have proven safety benefits for pedestrians & cyclists. Ban right turns on red, raised intersections, curb extensions, daylighting crosswalks, etc.

Just completed the Federal government’s consultative survey on the future of Billy Bishop Airport. Feels like the bare minimum action that downtown Torontonians should take on this issue - a milquetoast effort. More effort is needed to protect the waterfront & downtown, but a few place to start.

You’re correct re: Toronto. Preserved heritage industrial site turned mixed-use community on the east side of our downtown. Its a tourist draw, and a bit love/hate for locals, but without the crowds, it’s a great spot for a coffee and a stroll.

Big vertical changes at Yonge & Gerrard. We should made changes on the ground too and finally pedestrianize this stretch of Yonge Street.

Great park, beautiful setting, lowered by defensive architecture. Designed to exclude or deter; and diminishes the quality of public space for all.
