Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Me, circa 2013. Having crossed mainland Canada by bike, I look to the future, October 6, 2026 when my eldest daughter will say: “I hate the car, the car is the worst thing. I just want to bike everywhere.” My work is done. 030
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Throwback to the OPPI Toronto District’s tour of the rooftop garden at TMU in June. Since my time at TMU as a student, the facilities have expanded to include a second garden that offers public access (for students and the world). Very impressive spaces and well executed programming. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Loving the seating & landscaping at the new Dawn Redwood Park in near Yonge & Eglinton. Amid all the local construction, this is a small but great public space for the community. 022
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Thinking fondly of the a hot summer day at the beautiful NCC River House on the Ottawa River. A fantastic facility in our capital. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Arterial roads in the neighborhood link bike lanes, subway stations and bus lanes. Nothing is temporary. Not a pilot study in sight - incrementalism is for cowards. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 06/09/2026This is Ahuntsic, a Montréal suburb about 10 km from the City Centre. If they can build protected, permanent and beautiful cycling infrastructure here, Toronto has no excuses. 241
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 15/07/2026The Toronto forecast is « smoke ». There’s a municipal election this year. Can we firmly reject every pro car anti-bike lane candidate still standing? 010
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 16/06/2026If you’re venturing to the outskirts of Vienna, I’d recommend checking out Seestadt Aspern, a master planned suburb at the end of the U2 line on a former airfield site. Photos circa 2023. 011
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 10/06/2026Beautiful new mural at Inglenook Community School in Corktown. Fantastic work by The Flying Bushman. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 09/06/2026Just completed the Federal government’s consultative survey on the future of Billy Bishop Airport. Feels like the bare minimum action that downtown Torontonians should take on this issue - a milquetoast effort. More effort is needed to protect the waterfront & downtown, but a few place to start. 100
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 08/06/2026Weekday morning in the Distillery District, pre tourist crowds, is serene. 100
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 04/06/2026Big vertical changes at Yonge & Gerrard. We should made changes on the ground too and finally pedestrianize this stretch of Yonge Street. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Great park, beautiful setting, lowered by defensive architecture. Designed to exclude or deter; and diminishes the quality of public space for all. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 02/06/2026Eager to see the final product at Madison Group’s The Capitol development, north of Yonge & Eglinton. The heritage restoration of the former Capitol Theatre is taking shape. From the sidewalk, it’s a nice look. 100
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 25/05/2026Very cool to see this communication board at Waterloo (Ontario) Park last weekend. A nice use of two-dimensional signage that is a helpful adaptive communication tool. Autism-friendly and helpful for anyone with speech and language barriers. 010
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 22/05/2026Fun mosaic at the new One Yonge Community Rec. Centre. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 21/05/2026Beautiful, engaging architecture of Anishnawbe Health Toronto. 110
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 01/05/2026First Line 5 trip was a detour to avoid a Line 1 delay. The tunnelled portion was quick. I waited 2 min for a train - great! The stations are soulless & bland- not a small grievance as the sterile white panelled walls are bad for wayfinding. Hoping for future station improvements but good service. 010
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 22/04/2026My first chance to see Fitzrovia's Elm-Ledbury development near Church and Queen East, Toronto. Very impressed by the design and execution of the publicly accessible space. Great sightlines, ample seating and shade, & car-free (!) where there was once a giant downtown parking lot. 000
Mike Bennett @themikebennett.bsky.social · 11/12/2024Subway headway for TTC Line 1 during my December 10th morning commute measured 1.5 songs from the new Father John Misty Album. A subpar transit performance bolstered by a strong soundtrack. 010
