Experimenting with a satellite imagery version… Not sure how I feel about it yet but I can see a few cases where it'd be handy.

🚨 Breaking!!! 🚨 As if setting the record for the highest percentage of zero carbon U.K electricity ever recorded - at 98.8% - wasn’t enough this week, the National Energy System Operator has just announced that we also set a new for solar generation yesterday! 🇬🇧☀️♻️⚡️

It appears Great Britain set a remarkable new record for clean power this afternoon: between 3pm and 3.30pm, just 420 MW of 33,640 MW electricity generation was coming from fossil fuels (all gas) Gas was just 1.2% of all generation. The rest was wind, sun, nuclear, biomass (5.5%) and imports (6.9%)
NESO dashboard reports fossil low of 420 MW and 1.2%

Great Britain today has smashed its record for solar power (which was set only a couple of weeks ago) Up from 14.4 GW to 15.2 GW! Solar power was supplying 41% of all electricity demand at the time.

So close to GB running zero carbon yesterday. Well done to everyone in the GB energy space - 🏆 Record-breaking day for Great Britain's electricity system! ⚡ On 22 April, we achieved a new zero-carbon record, with zero-carbon sources providing 98.8% of our electricity between 3:30 – 4pm.

1/ Some wild numbers have been used in the media this week for “the cost of net zero”. Reports have said that net zero will “cost” £4.5 trillion, £7.6 trillion – the list goes on. None of these are the cost of net zero – a quick explainer 🧵 on why

A picture is worth 1000 words... This appeared on the BBC News today, showing the increase in solar electric generation in the UK. Not sure who produced it, but genuinely think this is a genius piece of scientific communication - the construct and choice of colour scale is near-perfect. Chapeau!

Three of the top five British grid electricity records smashed in 2025! This is a huge success story, despite what Russian bots and U.S fossil fuel shills scream on X. Every unit of clean domestic energy we produce means a safer future for our children…🥳

Looking like the GB Electricity record has been broken this evening. Exceeded 22GW for the first time beating the record from January 2023. www.neso.energy/data-portal/...

I didn’t leave X because people there had different opinions and ideologies, I left because it stopped being fun. I get on social media to chat with people who think thinking is fun. X stopped being a place where that was true.

Now this place is cooking, maybe worth doing a big old energy thread. Let’s talk about how electricity prices are set, why they’re so high in Britain, and how we could reduce them… 🧵
