The Committee warmly welcome Parliament’s decision to pass the Seventh Carbon Budget into law this evening. This sets a legally binding target of around 87% emissions reduction for 2038–42, in line with our advice. Response from our Chair ⬇️ www.theccc.org.uk/2026/06/24/r...

The Committee recommends government focus on: 🪭 Better cooling. 🌊 Stronger flood protection. 💧 A more secure water supply. These are the most critical priorities to address the three biggest climate risks: heat, flooding and drought. www.theccc.org.uk/publication/...

ANALYSIS: Wind and solar have saved UK from gas imports worth £1.7bn since Iran war began 😎 Record-high wind+solar output 🔥 Record-low gas generation ❄️ First ever winter with wind+solar out-performing fossil fuels 🏆 Wind+solar beating gas for 15 straight months 1/5

So close to GB running zero carbon yesterday. Well done to everyone in the GB energy space - 🏆 Record-breaking day for Great Britain's electricity system! ⚡ On 22 April, we achieved a new zero-carbon record, with zero-carbon sources providing 98.8% of our electricity between 3:30 – 4pm.

It appears Great Britain set a remarkable new record for clean power this afternoon: between 3pm and 3.30pm, just 420 MW of 33,640 MW electricity generation was coming from fossil fuels (all gas) Gas was just 1.2% of all generation. The rest was wind, sun, nuclear, biomass (5.5%) and imports (6.9%)
NESO dashboard reports fossil low of 420 MW and 1.2%

It begins. The wave of AR3/AR4 mega projects at bargain basement prices (e.g. Sofia is ~£55/MWh in 2026 money) is starting to wake up. Dogger Bank A and B emerging, too. Hornsea 3 just around the corner. All of which will be highly competitive with prevailing wholesale prices.

NEW ANALYSIS: Record wind and solar generation saved UK from gas imports worth £1bn in March 2026 📈Wind+solar were up 22% year-on-year in March to a record high for the month ⛴️This avoided the need for gas imports worth £1bn at current high prices www.carbonbrief.org/...

More top work from @thecccuk.bsky.social 👏 💪 The benefits of climate action far outweigh the costs 🔥 Those costs, over the 25-year transition to Net Zero, are comparable to the cost of a single fossil fuel crisis! 👍 Robust over many sensitivities and in line with recent @neso-energy.bsky.social work

BREAKING: UK govt auction secures 4.9GW new solar at £65/MWh and 1.3GW new onshore wind at £72/MWh, 13% and 21% below the price cap respectively. All due online by 2029.

Here's how Aurora Energy Research sees the UK offshore wind auction (AR7) cutting bills for consumers "£1bn by 2035" * CfD payments go up * Other costs go up (balancing, capacity mkt) * Wholesale prices go down * Overall costs go down www.linkedin.com/posts/ivan-b...

Here's the other side of the story you won't read in today's headlines about the cost of meeting net zero targets. The reality is the IEA report is deeply flawed and based on some pretty blatant cherry-picking of clean tech costs. www.businessgreen.com/news/4524063...

Truly wild that the Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express & Daily Telegraph all covered false claims that net-zero will "cost" £7.6bn – or even £9tn – which assumes we could have free gas, free petrol, free petrol cars & free gas power plants if we scrapped net-zero More here: bsky.app/profile/drsi...

1/ Some wild numbers have been used in the media this week for “the cost of net zero”. Reports have said that net zero will “cost” £4.5 trillion, £7.6 trillion – the list goes on. None of these are the cost of net zero – a quick explainer 🧵 on why
