I'm sure many teachers have had a stress dream about taking a naughty class that they haven't planned a lesson for. It's my pleasure to suggest some impromptu activities you may wish to use in your dream state, based on my own experience. 1. low ability Year 9. Get them to count up in threes.

I can think of 6 questions to ask Isabel Oakeshott 1) why did you hold illegal lockdown parties? 2) do you feel bad about dobbing in your friends Chris Huhne and Vicky Price? 3) did you move from GBNews to TalkTV because it wasn't racist enough? 4) why did you call disabled young people "parasites"?

I’ve watched to the end of season 48 of Casualty. I’m finding it a bit “meh”. This quirky idea of helping patients in hospital is running out of steam. And I’m struggling to care enough about the underlying storyline.

Oh God, is it Christmas already? Are we still living in the era of novelty TV tie-in books? I suppose Mitchell & Webb are in the news, but given how long ago Peep Show finished, this does absolutely reek of cash-in. And £19 in hardback? That’s almost as much as an Alan Bennett.

LOL, the gotcha part in the second paragraph is truly hilarious. Who will think of the straight white rightwing men in the literary world? WHO? WHO?
Last week, the longlists for the National Book Awards were announced. Among the 20 authors in the fiction and nonfiction categories, nearly all are straight white males. Most are also on the political right, some even on the far right. Remarkably, mainstream media outlets haven’t reported this, perhaps because they don’t think it’s noteworthy. It’s as if we were living in 1956 rather than 2026.

If you’re scratching your head at this “news,” well, it’s because I made it up. Or rather, I inverted the particulars about the authors’ identities and their political views to make a point: If today, as a reader, you recoil at the thought of a time in which minorities were systematically marginalized when it came to the literary world’s public honors (and so much else), shouldn’t you also recoil now that the tables have been almost completely turned? And if you object to the right’s efforts to politicize the arts, won’t you also object when the efforts come from the left?

Three kinematic graphs labelled A, B, C.

Which one doesn't belong?
Give a reason why each graph might be considered the odd one out.
What is the most obvious reason you can give in each case?
What is the least obvious (but still justifiable) reason?

A suggested sentence structure: "A is the odd one out because B and C both …"

Lots of right-wing hand-wringing over the "censored" episodes of #MitchellAndWebb just released to iPlayer. In most cases, a single sketch per episode, amounting to a minute, has been cut, usually due to blackface. But S01E05 has 6 minutes cut due to a sketch about a tribe hiding in a mall.
