A very Certain Type of Man tableau on the Edinburgh train, @thefence.bsky.social.
A table of an LNER Azuma train about to depart from London King’s Cross (along with the rest of the train and passengers). A copy of The Fence magazine is on the table, along with Viz and Edge. A Waitrose BLT and bottle of Spaten Oktoberfest beer complete the highly pretentious still life.

'I found myself living with a pair of Taylor Swift obsessives. One was my daughter, the other my father. Divided by 70 years and much else, they were united by Taylor, though it was less a case of shared taste than of parallel obsessions with occasional moments of convergence.'

It's easy, perhaps, to imagine that the days of open street homophobia in the UK are a thing of the past. And sure, things aren't as bad as they were even two decades ago, of course. But, as I find in a new piece for @thefence.bsky.social, abject anti-gay hate remains a familiar occurrence.

Excellent story: nearly all of it sounds like fiction. This paragraph got me Everything this guy touches seems to be a failure, but the marks keep coming.
He appears mostly on podcasts with a big
beard that gives him the aura of a guru.
No longer is he an ambassador for the
Global Gift Foundation, one of the
intended beneficiaries of the auction.
His biggest project since the auction
was a rocket launch of his laser-etched
heart motif to the moon in 2024. But
the propellant malfunctioned and
Jafri's artwork came crashing back
down to earth, burning up over the
