And dare to even lay a mere tap on a car that gets too close or give a hand gesture showing your displeasure at bad driving and expect a driver to react as if you have just attempted to murder their family. Absolutely deranged anger.

A serious democratic society simply cannot allow this. That's £72 million from just two men. (Both, until lately, based overseas). The average UK earner (full-time) would have to work for over 1,800 years to raise that much. It's a nuclear strike on any pretence at the equality of political power

High-speed rail is not a boondoggle. *Highways* are a boondoggle. Biggest one ever foisted on the public. We pay far too much, for the world's most costly transport system. $12,000 a year for car ownership in North America. And we still don't get to work on time. 🧵

So much Cybercab content on my YT timeline! Weird form factor - cab with just 2 seats. Yet the boot could take a baby elephant!? And what about disabled access? And stupid swing doors rather than sliders? Hugely anticipating vids of groups of 5-6 bundling into the two seat cab and in the boot too!

Separate cycle tracks alongside rural main roads give the elderly or people with mobility issues far more freedom. Someone on a mobility scooter can travel safely from town to town, without having to rely on a car or public transport. This is what accessible transport infrastructure looks like.

Bill Bryson on the RNLI in "The Road to Little Dribbling : more notes from a small island" (2015)
I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people - teachers, plumbers, the guy
who runs the pub - drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that? The RNLI - I looked this up later - is an organization run by volunteers, supported entirely by public donations. It maintains 233 stations around the coast of Britain and averages twenty-two call-outs per day. It saves 350 lives a year on average.
