The letter I sent to the #SFGianrs Heartbroken. No idea where I'm supposed to find a gayer team.

An email to SF Giants customer service, which reads:

Hello,

I am a devoted Giants fan and former season ticket holder. I did not get season tickets this year only because I have a newborn child and would not use them enough, but fully intended to get season tickets again in the future.

I am also a queer person.

Last night's protest of pride night by four Giants pitchers was deeply upsetting to me. I do not expect every athlete on the team to share my politics. But the coordinated protest that took place indicates either failure or approval on an organizational level.

I will not be purchasing tickets, merchandise, or watching Giants games until accountability has been taken for the institutional failure that allowed last night's protest to take place.

Pride night is meant to signal that people like me are welcome members of the Giants community. Instead, the message last night was that allowing these pitchers to express their views was more important than maintaining a welcoming and inclusive community.

The reason players use the passage Genesis 9:12-16 is because they do not believe queer pride is something that should be celebrated, and they want to "reclaim" the rainbow from the queer community for Christianity. That is the only reason to do it. Anyone who says otherwise is lying and insulting my intelligence.

In the past, the Giants Chief Diversity Officer has had conversations with players who had reservations about participating in pride night and helped them come to a place of acceptance and understanding. I can only conclude that these conversations are either no longer effective or no longer taking place.

I am something of a dummy when it comes to baseball, but I don't really see how one can defend the Giants hitting coaching at this point? Maybe I'm totally wrong, but it seems like the more time they get with a guy the worse he hits. Pop-ups are especially bad. #SFGiants
