My dog decided to get herself stoned once. We think she found it on her morning walk in the remnants of a beach party. Overnight in the vets, activated charcoal and intravenous fluids as pot can cause hypothermia in dogs. She had a proper whitie on it too ... 😬

And yet we're happy to hand all our identifiable medical data over to a foreign surveillance company. This, surely, is an unacceptable double standard.

Job at 19 while at college selling carpet cleaning services. Commission only. Everyone sitting at their desks huffing cigarettes (this was the 90s). The air was thick with smoke. Made 1 sale for £45 in 3 days. It was actually costing me to be there. Phoned in sick day 4, never went back.

Next Artefacts in Focus article is in production, looking at this rather beautiful wooden rearing cobra in the collection at Bolton Museum. Did I think it would be straightforward? Yes. Did my ADHD brain then find a massive rabbit hole to fall down? Also yes 😐 Anyway, coming soon ...
An ancient Egyptian rearing cobra with a sundisk on its head. It's made of wood, with fragments of gilding remaining around the good and on the sundisk. It's photographed in quarter profile, which highlights the curve in the body and details on the face.

As we run headlong into the autumn here in the northern hemisphere, this is your reminder that you don't need 'good' weather to get good photos. The colder months can bring fog, cloud, or low, raking light, which can add an amazing atmosphere to your photos. #Photography
The head of one of the Anthony Gormley 'Another Place' iron men statues in Liverpool. The surface is rusted and damaged from being on the beach for years. Behind him, the beach stretches out into the fog.

It's all very well instructing us to make ourselves more resilient, but some of us literally can't. Been turned down for a warm homes grant which would have given me solar panels. Currently housebound with ME, barely paying the bills, how am I supposed to afford to stockpile?

Happy Kalends of #October! 🍂 From the Latin octo, “eight” — October was the 8th month in the earliest Roman calendar. Even after the calendar expanded to 12 months, it kept its name & its 31 days. October marked the close of the military & farming seasons & was under the protection of Mars. ⚔️🌾

After 11.5 years, I've managed to get a referral to a local ME clinic, but I'm warned waiting lists are long. We have to fight to get any support, & that fight is utterly exhausting. We are the least capable of it, and few people are doing it for us, so thank you @georgemonbiot.bsky.social! </rant>

I'm also fed up of asking for help, only to be asked, 'What would you like us to do?'. I DON'T KNOW! You're the expert, you tell me – I shouldn't have to be the one who has to research your job and department, what you can offer and what would be suitable for me. You. Tell. Me.

Having to deal with appointments is *exhausting* (bright lights, hard chairs, ambient noise, cognitive load of having to talk to strangers, remember info etc.), most staff either don't know how to accommodate my needs, or are unable to even when they have knowledge of the illness.

I was 'mild' up until 2023 (I could get out the house 2 or 3 times a week, spend a day at a museum with my camera or take my girls out for the day), but I'm now almost completely housebound, only going out for medical appointments. I have missed out on *so much* over the years.

That being said, I've been ill since 2015, and I've had to spend most of that time managing it myself, because the NHS is too siloed to be able to do much, social care is virtually unavailable, getting PIP is a nightmare, and there's nothing my GP can prescribe to help.

Can't think of any other physical disease where sufferers are treated this way without it being a massive scandal. I'm lucky in that I have family, friends, and a GP who all understand my situation and support my need to pace, rather than try to push myself #MECFS #pwME

AI assistants like Muse increasingly require permissions to carry out actions like adding calendar events and using connected services. While these capabilities make assistants more useful, they also create an attractive target for cybercriminals, who may attempt to use them for malicious purposes.
