I ran a Skeptics group for years but struggled with the pompous, sneering, smug, vociferous white men posturing and stroking each others egos, often with an underlying misogyny. Did they make it easier to be an atheist or was that just for the middle class while most had never read or heard of them?

It's Battle of Hastings Day. If you can get to see the Bayeux Tapestry do go. A work of art made by women.

On Thursday a remarkable woman won a by-election. On Friday a remarkable woman won the Nobel Peace Prize. The coverage has overwhelming been focused on the men who lost. It's 2026. Yet still.

How did we go from this to 'He had flaws but no one's perfect', admiration from that toady Gyles Brandreth and praise from the Queen - the fucking queen! - in a day? I'm just going to read news about kittens and cake from now on.

The Tory appropriation of the Bayeux tapestry for propaganda is ironic: they are referencing something made by immigrants who invaded us and destroyed our culture

A decade ago, a “weird” kitten was found on a road near a Bolivian forest. Too small to be a housecat, he had a scrunched-up face, short round ears, long whiskers, & a coat of leopard-like spots. DNA analysis now reveals him as the very first of a newly discovered species & I think I'm in love. 😻🧬🧪👇

Good writing in my view - while some commentary on here has framed Sheeran's justification as a demonstration of the hollowness of "neutrality", as a professional moral philosopher it is also what we in the business refer to as a "lie" and it may be helpful to refer to it as such

To all you buggers who consider (ineptly) mocking the accent of my forebears on Talk Like A Pirate Day on the 19th: be advised that pirates were just as likely to come from Wales or London. It was Robert Newton's hammy performance in Treasure Island (1950) that started the 'Aarr Jim lad' nonsense.
