a pair of male cowbirds who were taking turns inflata-calling in the branches. there were female cowbirds around so perhaps it was some spring mating thing. this day there were cowbirds everywhere and i had begun to despair of seeing anything more exciting. within an hour i had come to a spot with more warblers than i've ever seen in one place. true heaven.

a rather large brood of wee fluffy baby wood ducks who had just settled down on the log in the little bog pond absolutely covered in green duck weed. its green and green and green. the mama has one eye spot on me and the camera hoping to all hell that i don't disturb their peace. we didn't. after this quick photo we kept on along the way and ran into the wee'est of wee baby fawns. (also, one of these is not like the others.)

Shortly after this photo locals thought i was a drug addict, possibly in distress, as i had moved to lay down by the water behind a bush for a better photo. I had to move to show them my camera & scared the bird - but they didn't call the ambulance! Only addiction here: #BirdoftheDay #thedivers

very exciting to have run into this grebe fishing in the shallows down by the inlet at the local park. this spot gets some wild cards not typically seen around these parts and grebes love showing up sporadically. it was watching me on the surrounding berm for some time not overly concerned with attention. When it passed and dove down across to the other side to restart its loop I had moved lower down to lay in the bushes along the shore but locals were concerned that i had OD'd and passed out. No! Just birding.
