Becky had a broken dualit toaster in the garage. I have spent the morning replacing all the elements (£45 from Dualit) and it now works perfectly. She thinks I am a magician/genius. And now we have a working fancy toaster.

It's a fortnight or so to the anniversary of my first wife's death. The kids feel it almost like the change in seasons, the weather gets cooler, the light changes and they start talking to me about how that feels. We'll go out for dinner on what would have been her birthday, a couple of days after.

With our EV tariff at home we've shifted all the power hungry devices to run in the cheap period - dishwasher, tumble dryer and so on. You can really see the impact when the usage is displayed graphically.

Cooking dinner and listening to The Knife. There was a period where I was obsessed with this band. Deep Cuts was eclipsed by the astonishing Silent Shout, but it's still an amazing album. It showed all the electroclash berks the emotion and human feeling they'd been missing
