When I first heard of ChatGPT, and the DALLE•2 image generator, I spent some finding out what they did, and where they fell down—and I must say, I found out pretty quickly how fallible they were, which makes it all the more surprising to me that lawyers and academics have been tripped up by LLMs.

If you're west of the Indian Ocean, you may yet have the chance to catch Venus and the Moon in daylight. 🔭
An almost-clear blue sky with the crescent Moon seen dimly against the blue, and a bright dot above that is Venus. An inset shows the overexposed image of Venus as slightly crescent-shaped.

Hard light. An engineer, engaged in pure research, stumbles on a method of generating a metre-long beam of light from an old flashgun grip. A workplace safety enquiry is launched after the device unexpectedly severs the arm of his lab assistant son who cries "no, that's not true; that's impossible."

Your reminder that fairy tales are full of stepmothers because women once routinely died in childbirth, from postpartum sepsis, or from other infectious diseases and left behind housefuls of motherless children. Stable nuclear families are made possible by vaccines, antibiotics, and safe abortions.

Some style-guide dictats give me the shits, like Nasa for NASA. Here's another from the NYT (though maybe I'll style it nyT).
Ampersands in Company Names

Although ampersands are thought of as informal, if the ampersand is officially part of a company name, it’s best to use the ampersand instead of writing out the word “and.” For example, you write “Tiffany & Co.,” “Procter & Gamble,” and “AT&T” with ampersands.

In general, you write the company’s name the way it wants it written. However, the New York Times Manual of Style and Usage does say to use the ampersand to replace less common abbreviations for “and” in company names. For example, the creative agency Wieden+Kennedy writes its name with a plus sign for the “and,” but the New York Times style guide says to replace it with an ampersand
