I was stomping about all stressed outside the BT tower before giving an important presentation that wasn't mine on behalf of a colleague who'd gone sick. I needed some are and some thinking as the presentation was loaded with nonsense. A man in a turban stopped me, put his hand on my shoulders and

They don't have to think hard and carefully about what they buy. If they don't like it, they just buy another.

I wish it was somehow impossible to comprehend, but it isn't. Just normal daily existence for half of the population. One half preying on the other, perpetually. The nature of it changes over time, but not the intent.

Beyond belief that the presence of her parents wasn't enough - that they had to stand so close to her as to make her unreachable to actually stop it.

Maria talked about a trip to see family in Rome where her parents had to enclose her on a tram because she was having her bottom grabbed *continually* by the men on the bus. She was 12.

I opened the curtains once to see foxes on the decking playing with the dog's toys. Dog was beside herself with rage.

Sorry, was in Holborn, but called Kingsway. I did an organised visit there a few years back. Home to the deepest bar in the UK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingswa...

Like the top secret underground Holborn telephone exchange, nowhere near Holborn - it was deliberately misnamed. Also the real life home of Q division of James Bond fame.

I've earned that much at points in my life. I had a nice comfy chair in a nice warm office with a restaurant and hot drinks. I've earned far less doing jobs that were far harder. No-one dies if I mess up at work, and I face zero danger doing what I do.

Every 'management style' thing I've done at work has marked me as 'paternalistic' - I treat my team like a father, wellbeing and self-development first - the actual job is way down the list.

The last team I managed used to call me Ted Lasso. I hadn't seen the show at the time. I have now. I'll take that as a win. And I can see why they called me the name - I try to be gentle, patient, supportive and on a good day, insightful. I'm actually kind of touched.

With an EV tariff a charge is £1.30 at home and we run all our appliances In the cheap period - my electricity bill actually reduced. Becky also has an EV and reckons to be saving £400 a month in diesel as a midwife who travels around a lot.

Terry Barnes @terryb72.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I wanted an EV but didn't want to take the depreciation hit. A family member bought my old petrol car for £5k so depending on how you do your maths it's not cost me a fortune.

Excellent! Americano, skimmed milk, no sugar - thank you! I will aim to arrive at the double tree at bedtime, in Carr Lane for 8:30 🙂 I did the drive once about 25 years ago when I worked for BT. It seemed to take for bloody ever. And I will have to stop to charge.

I will not replace it immediately - though new Citroen e2cv might change my mind. 6000 miles in 2 years means I clearly don't need it and I use my bike to nip into town generally. As I said to Becky, I can use that £230 monthly for dancing girls, champagne and cocaine.

A colleague is buying my lease car as it comes off lease, which means I have to drive to bloody Hull from Brighton a week on Monday. Someone has taken a big loss on the lease - I pad £230 a month to lease a car that was £38k new and he is buying for £14k at 3 years old and 6000 miles.

Becky is away with her friends tonight so I am abandoning my Simba mattress for a campbed in child 2's temporary room so we can chat and catch up on general life stuff. Hoping to hear about planning permission to convert the garage for him shortly.
A campbed next to a hospital style bed. A red sleeping bag is visible.

Also listening to this which made a wonderful appearance in the last few minutes of the latest episode of Slow Horses. It gave me goosebumps. Like an edgier Hurts.

It's a long-running private joke between us. Whenever one of us makes a bold personal claim the other has to quickly follow up with 'on paper.' Becky also has her own one which is to quickly say 'pardon?' whenever my deaf left ear enters conversation.

Kids are watching various TV/tablet type things, I am on top of the chores and so I am going to read this for a while.
The cover of a book entitled 'black op and beaver bombing' by Fiona Matthews and Tim Kendall. The cover is white and green and features a beaver. Unsurprisingly.

I am always slightly disappointed at the time it takes to make a lovely pizza dough and sauce from scratch and then loving top and cook it compared to the handful of seconds the kids will eat it in. The kneading is quite therapeutic though. Someone who worked for me once told me that kneading...

The 'terrilble anniversary' is 3 days before so I try to do the birthday instead and make it a thing for happy memories rather than the 'hey, remember when mummy died?' that her parents seem to prefer. They were aghast when I refused to bring the kids to the meal of misery.

Out for dinner with Team Barnes on what would have been Maria's birthday. And is Phil Oakey's. They've all done so well and come so far. I am full of pride for them.

One of the things that people on the spectrum sometimes do is plan a script for a conversation in an attempt to reduce anxiety. It really throws us when the other person doesn't say the right lines. Or, when I had a brief relationship with a woman with autism, we would just look puzzled at

Becky's new one does 340 I think. I find I need a wee and a break after 3 hours of driving and even at motorway speeds that's only 150 miles - and a 20 min charge puts that back. And stuck in traffic they used hardly any power. You could sit in it with the lights & heater on for days.

If we didn't both have EVs we'd be spending so much money. Becky's £15 a week charging at home would be £200 or more in diesel.

We have 2 EVs and my son has a diesel wheelchair van. Hard to make those electric because they cut the floor out to make the floor sloping and that's where the battery goes. I wince when I have to fill it up.
