This is going to be the worst bubble burst in history when it happens. WHEN. If for no other reason than you’ll need the skills you build by doing so post-AI crash, intentionally & vehemently refuse to use LLMs 100% of the time. Make sure employers, schools, etc leave ALL non-AI pathways open.

l've been a SA advocate for decades:
NEVER go to campus resources for a SA. Call a rape care hotline/program (off campus), get a SA advocate (they're free), go to a SART hospital for care (and evidence collection if you choose).
They activate the police. Schools have NO business in this process and will minimize and bury it. It's a criminal matter, not an administrative matter.
Period. No exceptions.

boss, the fascism
Tumblr post by user Nitewrighter that reads:
Me: I don't get it. I thought I was doing a lot better than I was a few years ago. I'm like 10 times more on top of things than I used to be. How does everything feel terrible now?

The Tiny Me in OSHA-approved Hi-Vis Gear Who lives in my brain and pulls all the levers: Boss, it's the fascism. You're completely gunked up with cortisol due to the fact that your entire daily life is now underscored with a haunting awareness of the rapid erosion of your rights, dignity, and any and all social safety nets, and you're also bearing witness to the most vulnerable people immediately being persecuted. This creates a natural stress response that basically means you're going to continue having memory and organizational problems, as well as emotional imbalances.

Me: BUT I HAVE A BULLET JOURNAL AND I MEDITATE NOW.

Tiny OSHA Me: BOSS, THE FASCISM.

That's why using AI to code, in my opinion, can only lead to AI code being pushed unchecked. Most people start with good intentions, "It's just a tool", "I'll do my own thinking", "I'll make sure to review and understand every line of code".

Yep, this Hacker News post has the right of it. They're pushing for a "great slowdown" because the gains have been incremental for, uh, a while. Like I'm not saying it's nothing, but it's nowhere near enough to get them to profitability, so they need an escape, and now. Or their valuation poofs.
Cracks are starting to appear. Open Ai and Anthropic are publicly asking for slowdown in AI research. Translation: We see this technology not being any more useful than what it is now, no AGI is coming, and the first one to accept this and slow down the dollar burn rate will incur the wrath of the market. So let's say this big boogey man technology will end all life on earth and we all slow down together. Bonus points if we can lobby for this to be included in the national security bucket. Then US govt can bail us out. Yay!

If Nvidia is the bank, they should be starting to sweat a bit. It's not often companies ask for a voluntary slowdown.

A trans man in the UK has been banned in the workplace restrooms after he was forced to use the women's restrooms to comply with the new EHRC guidance. The women complained because he is visibly male and so they told him he can't use any bathroom.
A screenshot of a Reddit post from the r/LegalAdviceUK subreddit by user Dijstraanon, titled "FtM transgender facing two different issues at work? England."
The post text reads:
"Brother in law is trans FtM and presents fully as a man. He's now facing an impossible situation at work with his employer telling him that due to recent legislation he must use the toilet of his birth gender. BUT several female colleagues have raised a grievance about him using their gendered toilet.
His employer has told him that he cannot use the toilet while he is at work until they sort it out and cannot give him a timeframe to do so. They do [cut off] have disabled separate toilets.
In the mean time one of his female colleagues has accused him of sexual harassment because he was used their gendered toilet. His menstrual cycle meant he needed to use the toilet.
He's been with the employer for just over 5 years but only in this location for 18 months. The location is mainly male with just a handful of females, and his workshop only has male toilets.
I do not know how to support him and as he's not in a union there is no one to turn too right now."
The post has an orange "Comments Moderated" tag, 169 upvotes, and 134 comments.

Don't forget that you may know people going through it & burying their struggles deep. There's so much stigma surrounding mental health issues. Breaking down that wall of stigma is EVERYTHING. Start a conversation. Show folks they matter. Listen to them. You could make a life-changing difference.

Refusing to use AI isn’t a recalcitrant position. It’s the moral one. There is too much wrong with how this is happening to just “if you can’t beat em join em” this. It’s a lack of consent machine. An environmental destruction machine. An emotional and cognitive numbing machine.
